About Darcy
If you're a lover of XXL dogs than look no further because Mr Darcy may just be your perfect match!
Mr Darcy is practically perfect in every way. He's excellent with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and would be happiest with a canine companion in his new home, or someone who is home more often than not. He walks beautifully on leash and is neutral to other dogs/people when passing.
While he's never lived with cats he showed really promising signs during his cat test that he could potentially co-exist in a home with cats given the right introductions and supervision.
Darcy is gentle and patient with children. Like most giant dogs, he doesn't seem to have an awareness of his body size and often bumps things off coffee tables/tv units with his butt or his long solid tail!
He's fully toilet trained and will bark to alert you when he needs to go out if the door isn't open. He can get a little distressed when away from his people and can bark a bit, but this does settle down and with the help of his anxiety medication we're confident that will improve further. However given this, he's probably not suited to an apartment or unit complex (unless you have really understanding neighbours!) He does not get destructive when left alone and gets free roam of the house and yard in his foster carer's place without incident.
Darcy weighs in at a whopping 70kg at present, but does need to lose a significant amount of weight (he should probably be around the 60kg mark ideally). He doesn't have a huge amount of stamina at the moment but he loves to play and he loves his walks so we're looking for someone committed to keeping him exercised that wants to see him get to peak physical condition again. Darcy can be prone to skin irritations and ear infections in the Spring/Summer months. We're trialling a good-quality diet to see if it helps but his new family need to accept this and commit to keeping him happy, healthy and comfortable.
