About Oakleigh
🐾❤️ IF OAKLEIGH COULD ASK FOR HER FOREVER HOME… ❤️🐾
“I’m not asking for much… although I do have a few very important Dachshund requirements!” 😂
Hi everyone, I’m Oakleigh, a gorgeous 4 years and 7 months old Miniature Dachshund weighing 5.5kgs and standing approximately 13cm tall. I might be a little girl, but I have a HUGE personality and an even bigger heart. ❤️
I came into the rescues care after retiring from breeding, and the rescue has completed all my vet work, and now I’m ready for the next chapter of my life. I’m looking for a family who will give me all the love, patience, cuddles and kisses I could possibly want, while I learn just how wonderful being a much-loved family pet can be.
I can be a little shy when I first meet new people, so I might need a little time to decide that you’re my kind of person. But once I’ve worked you out, watch out… because I’ll soon be following you around, cuddling up beside you and becoming your very best little friend. I’m a sweet and placid girl, but I definitely have a cheeky Dachshund side hiding underneath all that sweetness!
❤️ My humans are VERY important to me. I love being close to people and my favourite place is right beside my human. Whether we’re relaxing on the couch, enjoying some sunshine, having a cosy night under a blanket or just pottering around the house, I’m happiest when I’m included.
And while I would be perfectly happy being your one and only dog because I adore human company, I’m also very happy to have another dog around. I have always lived with dogs and I currently hang out with another Dachshund at my foster home. I get along with other dogs really well, so having a suitable doggy friend would be absolutely fine by me. I’m pretty flexible — I can be your little shadow all by myself, or I can share my humans with a furry friend. 🐶❤️
👧 I love kids too! I’m happy to cuddle up with children and be part of family life. I’m the kind of little girl who wants to be wherever everyone else is, especially if there are pats and cuddles happening.
🐱 Cats are friends as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been cat tested and get along really well with them. I don’t bother them and am quite happy to share my home with a feline friend.
🐦 I haven’t been tested with other small animals, but birds don’t really interest me and I’m quite happy to leave them doing their own thing.
🚶♀️ I LOVE my walks! Take me for a stroll and I’m a very happy little Dachshund. I’m happy to go as far as you would like, and I’m very good on lead, so I’m quite ready to join you for adventures.
🏡 I’m pretty clever around the house too. I’m toilet trained, although I can occasionally have an accident if I’m left inside and can’t get outside. I can use a doggy door and I’m crate trained. At night I’m happy sleeping in bed with my human, or I can snuggle into my crate with a big cosy blanket.
🌞 When I’m not out walking or following my humans around, I love a good sunbake and I’m perfectly happy relaxing around the house.
Of course, I wouldn’t be a proper Dachshund without a little bit of sass! 😂 I’m generally very quiet and calm, but when I’m having fun my playful side comes out. I also enjoy a good Dachshund bark every now and then, although I’m easy to defuse. And if I think I’ve been forgotten when it comes to pats, I’m quite capable of having a little conversation with my humans to let them know that the patting department is currently falling behind schedule! 😂
My favourite things include treats, pats, cuddles, tug-of-war with my furry friends, cosy blankets and being wherever my people are. Basically, I’m a very easy little girl to please.
I do have a beautiful long coat, so my forever family will need to keep up with regular brushing and frequent grooming to keep me comfortable, healthy and looking gorgeous.
💕 I’ve had a big change in my life after retiring from breeding, and now I’m hoping someone will look past my initial shyness and give me the time to show them who I really am. I might not rush straight up to you on our first meeting, but please don’t take that personally. Give me a little patience, let me come to you in my own time, and I promise there is a very sweet little Dachshund heart waiting underneath that initial shyness.
I’m ready for a family who will make me part of their world, let me sleep somewhere cosy, take me for walks, give me plenty of cuddles and, most importantly, love me for the rest of my life. ❤️
I don’t think that’s asking too much, do you?
After all, I’m only a tiny Dachshund girl… but I have a whole lot of love, a little bit of sass and an enormous amount of cuddles waiting to give. 🐾💕

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption - each bio will state if available for adoption - please check before applying.
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
