Kai

Kai may disappear when you first say hello, but give him a little time and something tasty, and you might notice a curious face appearing again.

The shelter has been a lot for Kai to take in, and right now he feels safest when he has somewhere quiet to retreat. He's not the kind of cat who will immediately throw himself into a stranger's arms, but we've already seen little signs that there's a much softer boy waiting underneath those nerves.

Food is one of the easiest ways to start a friendship with Kai. We've watched him gather the courage to come out for a tasty treat, accept gentle cheek pats, then retreat when he needs a moment. But the lovely part? He comes back. That willingness to try again tells us there's curiosity underneath the uncertainty and a boy who is slowly learning that interacting with people can lead to good things.

Kai has also shown us glimpses of what he may be like once he truly feels safe, including little headbutts, a tail held happily in the air and even those content little kneading paws. He just needs more time than the shelter environment can comfortably give him to let that side shine.

A calm home, predictable routine, tasty treats and someone willing to let Kai set the pace could make an enormous difference. The friendship may develop one small step at a time, but watching him choose to stay a little longer, lean a little further into a pat, or eventually come looking for you himself could make every step worthwhile.

Kai has also received the dental care he needed while with us, and keeping up with good dental home care will help look after his teeth into the future.
Kai is already trying to be brave. Now he just needs someone willing to give him somewhere safe enough to keep trying.
