Fern (aka Mae Mae)

Fern came into care as a young stray mum with kittens. She did a wonderful job raising her babies and has now watched them all head off to loving homes of their own.

Now it’s Fern’s turn.

At approximately 1–2 years old, Fern is a gentle, affectionate girl who has made enormous progress during her time in foster care. She can be cautious with new people initially, but once you have gained her trust, a completely different little cat emerges.

Fern is a smoocher.

She loves head scratches and will reward her trusted humans with headbutts, slow “kissy eyes” and even little licks. Surprisingly, she is also rather partial to a belly scratch!

She isn’t quite ready for a full lap sit yet, but she loves being around her humans and being included in everyday household life. With the confidence she continues to gain, her foster family thinks a lap may well be in her future.

Fern currently lives with a resident cat and dog and enjoys their company. A friendly, confident resident cat would be a lovely companion for her and may help her continue to build confidence, although it isn't essential. She could also live with a calm, cat-friendly dog.

She is quite capable of entertaining herself too. One of her favourite games involves pushing a ball, or another small toy, underneath a shelf and then spending an extraordinary amount of time trying to retrieve it!

Fern's ideal home

Fern has had a rough start to life and will need an adopter who understands that trust takes time.

She can still be wary of sudden movements and people standing over her, so a calm, quiet household where she can settle in at her own pace would be ideal. She needs people who won't rush her or expect her to be immediately confident in a new environment.

In return, you'll have the privilege of watching this beautiful little girl blossom.

Fern has already shown her foster family just how affectionate, playful and loving she can be when she feels safe. She really does seem to want two simple things: to love and to be loved.
