Luna

Luna is learning that the world doesn't have to feel quite so scary, and in just a few days, she's already started taking some brave little steps forward.

When Luna first arrived in foster care, her instinct was to hide whenever people came near. Everything was unfamiliar and she wasn't quite sure what to make of her new surroundings or the humans sharing them with her. Rather than rushing her, her foster carer gave Luna the space and time she needed to simply watch, listen and begin figuring things out for herself.

And slowly, things started changing.

Luna began leaning forward to sniff an offered finger. She started eating small mouthfuls with her foster carer nearby. Bring out a wand toy and you may even catch her quietly following its movements, her body relaxing as that little bit of kitten curiosity starts taking over. She's also learning to accept gentle touch, even if she isn't quite ready to admit that pats are wonderful just yet.

These may sound like small things, but for a frightened kitten learning to trust people, they're wonderful little victories. And Luna managed them after only five days in foster care.

There is still so much about Luna that we haven't had the chance to discover. She needs a calm, patient home where nobody expects too much too quickly, where she has safe places to retreat to and where every little bit of confidence can be celebrated. At such a young age, she has so much learning and growing still ahead of her.

Maybe one day it'll be playing openly in front of you. Maybe it'll be choosing to sit a little closer. Maybe it'll be the first time she walks towards you instead of away. With Luna, the special part will be knowing that every milestone happened because she finally felt safe enough to take that next little step.
