About Artie
Artie is a beautiful gentle scruffy Wolfhound x weighing just 29 kilos with an even bigger heart to match his huge smiling face. Despite his size Artie is completely convinced he is a tiny lap dog and will happily try to squeeze himself onto your lap for cuddles whenever the opportunity arises. The only problem is that he definitely doesnāt fit ā but that certainly wonāt stop him!
Artie is a playful, affectionate and loving boy who adores his humans and thrives on being part of family life. Whether he is relaxing inside, following his people from room to room, enjoying a walk or zooming around the backyard with his foster sister, Artie is happiest when he is close to the people and dogs he loves.
He is loyal, devoted and eager to please, with a beautiful gentle nature despite his impressive size. Artie loves cuddles, tummy rubs, toys, treats, walks and, of course, his famous after-dinner zoomies!
Artie would make a wonderful addition to an active family who can give him companionship, affection, training and plenty of opportunities to use both his body and his clever mind. In return, he will give you endless cuddles, plenty of laughs, unwavering loyalty and a lifetime of love.

LIFE WITH HIS FOSTER FAMILY
Artie currently lives with two adults, two teenagers and a four-legged foster sister. He absolutely loves his humans and his doggy foster sister and enjoys being involved in whatever the family is doing.
He has shown that he can happily live with both large and small dogs and has attended doggy daycare.
He is an affectionate boy who loves attention and being close to his people. If you value personal space, Artie may not be the dog for you because he will happily follow you everywhere!
ARTIEāS FAVOURITE THINGS
Artieās favourite things include treats, toys, playing ball, roughhousing and zoomies with his foster sister, especially his mandatory after-dinner zoomies.
He loves morning cuddles on the bed with his foster mum and dad, going for walks and outdoor adventures, being inside with his humans, and receiving plenty of pats and tummy rubs.
TRAINING & OBEDIENCE
Artie came into foster care with some training and has continued to make great progress.
He knows how to sit, sit and wait for his food, and go āon your matā. He also responds well to basic voice commands.
Artie initially pulled and became very excited on walks, but he has responded really well to training and is now walking nicely on a slip lead. With continued consistency, positive reinforcement and engagement, he will continue to improve.
Artie is crate trained, although he currently sleeps happily on his own bed.
He is a clever, willing boy who enjoys learning and would love a family who will continue his training and make it fun.
SOCIAL SKILLS
Artie is a social boy who enjoys the company of other dogs. He currently lives happily with a smaller female dog and loves playing with her.
Because Artie is still young, he can become uncomfortable when unfamiliar dogs approach too intensely or are overly boisterous. He does best with calm, respectful introductions and interactions while he gets to know a new dog.
We believe Artie would particularly enjoy having a calm, playful female dog as a companion, ideally one young and active enough to keep up with his playful spirit.
He is good with both large and small dogs when introductions are managed appropriately.
INSIDE THE HOME
Artie has been both an indoor and outdoor dog and has access to the house while his foster family is at work and school.
He is very well behaved inside and has shown no destructive behaviours in foster care.
He does need toys, enrichment and mental stimulation, particularly if he is left home alone without another dog for company.
Artie loves being part of family life and will happily follow his humans from room to room. Privacy may become a thing of the past, but youāll certainly never be lonely!
EXERCISE & PLAY
Artie loves his walks and is well behaved on both short and long leads. He enjoys meeting people and other dogs and responds well to voice commands.
He also loves playing ball and will happily chase it and bring it back.
Artie has a playful young-dog personality and needs daily exercise and opportunities to burn off his energy. His famous after-dinner zoomies are a regular event!
He will also chase birds that enter the backyard, so a secure yard and continued training around distractions will be important.
CAR TRAVEL
Artie has travelled in the car on short trips and travels well without car sickness.
He is generally happy in the car and enjoys getting out for adventures. At times he can need a little assistance getting into the car, including being lifted.
FOOD
Artie currently eats a high-quality puppy kibble, approximately 2ā3 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the afternoon/evening.
He is a grazer rather than a big gulper and will often leave some food and return to it later when he is hungry.
Treats, however, are a completely different story! Artie can hear a snack packet being opened from approximately three suburbs away!
BATHING & HYGIENE
Artie has had several showers while in foster care. While bathing isnāt his favourite activity, he tolerates it well.
He absolutely loves a good towel dry, especially if the towel rub includes his belly!
He is also happy to sit or lie down while his paws are wiped before coming inside, provided his belly tax is paid.
SLEEPING & TOILETING
Artie has been doing beautifully overnight and comfortably sleeps through the night without needing to go outside.
He enjoys settling down on his large, fluffy bed in his foster parentsā bedroom, where he sleeps soundly and feels safe and secure.
MEDICAL
Artie has a scar on his leg from being attacked by another dog before coming into foster care. Thankfully, this has healed well and there are no ongoing medical concerns.
Artie has been vet checked.
ARTIEāS IDEAL HOME
We are looking for a loving family who understands large breeds and will continue helping Artie develop into the wonderful adult dog he is destined to be.
Artieās ideal home will be with a loving family who wants an affectionate dog who will be part of everyday family life. He needs daily exercise, play and mental stimulation, along with a secure, spacious backyard where he can enjoy his zoomies.
Experience with larger breeds is essential. A calm, playful female dog as a companion would be highly desirable, ideally one young enough to keep up with Artieās playful spirit.
His new family will need to be committed to continuing his training and providing him with plenty of cuddles, affection and belly rubs.
Due to his size and exercise needs, an apartment or small yard will not be suitable for Artie.
Children are welcome, provided they are comfortable and experienced around large dogs and understand how to interact respectfully with a young, playful dog.
WHY ARTIE?
Artie is one of those dogs who is impossible not to fall in love with.
He may be a big boy, but underneath those oversized paws is a gentle, affectionate soul who simply wants to be loved and included.
Heāll make you laugh with his determination to be a lap dog, wear you out with his zoomies, follow you around the house, bring you his ball, steal your heart and then happily fall asleep beside you.
Artie isnāt just looking for a home ā heās looking for his family. And in return, he promises a lifetime of love, loyalty, laughter and cuddles.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
