About Georgie
🐾 Georgie — Looking for Her Very Special Forever Home ❤️
A gentle soul who needs someone willing to let her blossom at her own pace
Georgie is a beautiful 3-year-old Staghound who has come an incredibly long way since she was rescued. She is smaller than your average Staghound, weighing in at 18kg
Georgie spent the first two years of her life living in a cage on a farm, knowing very little about the world outside it, and it seems very little contact with humans. When she first came into care, she was extremely fearful and lived almost constantly in flight mode. She couldn't be approached and found even the simplest things overwhelming.
Today, Georgie is a very different girl.
She walks beautifully on lead, loves going for car rides and will happily jump into the car to join her human on adventures. Big open spaces are still overwhelming for her, especially when they are new to her, but she is such a brave girl & always willing to come on the new adventure. Georgie has visited Pet stores, dog parks (always on lead), Bunnings, friends' homes and new environments, met strangers and other dogs, and even explored a property on acreage we visited. We were a little unsure about letting her off lead, but she surprised us all - she preferred to stay close.
There were chickens and ducks wondering around too, and she was wonderful with them.
Georgie is house and toilet trained and absolutely loves the company of other dogs. A confident, calm and well-balanced canine companion is important and a must for Georgie, as she gains confidence from dogs and learns from them that us humans are OK. She spent her first 2 years living with only dogs, so naturally she will feel safer with them around.
Georgie is a gentle, compliant and very Sweet & Special girl. There were so many firsts for Georgie, walking through a narrow gate, the first collar, the first lead, etc. She is still sensitive to movement and approach and can become nervous and flighty when something feels unfamiliar.
She loves being close to her humans, but may choose to keep a little distance while she builds confidence. She needs people who will allow her to approach in her own time and understand that trust is something that grows gradually.
Her progress has shown us that when she is given patience, choice and time, she can do amazing things. We celebrate the little wins, it has been an amazing ride
She now chooses to spend much more time in the lounge with her foster carer rather than retreating to her crate, and she is becoming increasingly curious about the world around her. She loves familiar visitors and gets wonderfully excited when her doggy friends arrive, with happy dances and the occasional awkward zoomies. ❤️
Everyone who meets Georgie, absolutely adores her. During her foster period, Georgie has welcomed many foster dogs coming through our home, she also helped raise a litter of puppies, she was absolutely wonderful with them, her maternal instincts kicked in, it was so precious to see her play with the little pups.
🏡 Georgie's forever home
Georgie needs a very special person or family who understands that trust cannot be rushed.
Her ideal home will be calm, patient and predictable, with someone who is prepared to allow her to build a relationship at her own pace.
A confident, friendly and well-balanced resident dog is important and a must for Georgie.
She is great with other dogs and currently lives happily with a cat. She has also shown that she can be gentle and respectful around chickens and ducks.
We don't believe Georgie is suited to a home with young children. She is very sensitive to movement and needs a calm environment where she can truly relax.
Very secure, high fencing is essential. An important part of her safety plan is that when her humans are away from home, Georgie must be securely inside the house. Particularly while settling into a new home, she will want to stay close to her people and must not be left outside unattended.
❤️ Foster-to-Adopt
Georgie will be looking for a foster-to-adopt home.
This is very important because her transition needs to be gradual, and her foster family will not be left to work it all out alone.
We will remain involved and support Georgie and her new family throughout the transition, helping them understand her behaviour, recognise her progress and give her the best chance of settling successfully.
Georgie doesn't need someone who expects instant cuddles. Don’t be surprised if she doesn't come up to you…
She needs someone who will celebrate the little things.
A dog who once couldn't be approached now walks happily beside her person, jumps into the car because she wants to come along, explores new places and chooses to stay close to the people she trusts.
There is so much more to come from this beautiful girl.
Georgie’s Diet
Georgie is fed a premium diet consisting of Raw food, Lyka, Prime100 , premium dry food, and she loves raw chicken necks. Her favourite cooked meals are chicken or minced beef - I try to sneak in some veggies 😉 Georgie also has a meaty bone once a week to keep her teeth nice and healthy.
Her favourite chews and treats are Bully stick/bites & dehydrated chicken or Duck breast.
🏡🐾 Georgie is ready to find the person who will be patient enough to let her show them just how special she really is. ❤️🐾 and someone that will keep her safe while she is settling in and learning about her new family
