Easter Chicken Delight

Pigeons are really smart!

When domestic pigeons are lost, injured, or unwell, they will often “self rescue” and take shelter by someone’s door or patio. This is their way of saying “I need help!” And turning to the only safe space they know of.

Easter Chicken Delight put himself out the front of the a house in the hopes someone would notice him and his broken leg. Fortunately they did, so he was able to come here and be rescued from his perilous situation. We think was either an abandoned ex-racer or a bird descended from racing pigeons.

Unfortunately it had been a week or so since Easter was first spotted, and by now his fracture had calcified and was unable to be splinted but still sore.

We were very surprised when we saw he had broken his bone clean through! Generally these breaks are very unstable and require further intervention, but further assessment determined Easter would be okay on cage rest and will just have a wonky leg for the rest of his life.

It has been a few months now and Easter Chicken Delight is now looking for his forever home. Other than being a little bit slower at times, Easter needs no special considerations and would like to be in a home with a pigeon friend to keep him company.
