Meet Dagwood, a clever, affectionate and delightfully cheeky character who brought plenty of personality to his foster home. While he still enjoys his daily bursts of zoomies, he spends most of his time happily snoozing on the couch or curled up on his foster carer’s lap. He is comfortable around visitors, forms lovely bonds with his people and has a particularly soft spot for a favourite lap – or even their favourite blanket when they’re not around!
Dagwood has an energetic side that usually appears a few times throughout the day. His foster carers learnt to spot the signs – little tail and body twitches mean the zoomies are coming! During these energetic periods he can become playful with his paws and may occasionally give a “love bite” as part of his play or communication. Give him an opportunity to burn off that energy and, before long, he is ready to settle back down for another well-earned nap. A calm approach works beautifully with Dagwood, as excitement or telling him off can simply add fuel to his enthusiasm.
This is one seriously smart cat! Dagwood loves investigating his surroundings and figuring out how things work. Doors, cupboards and even an unsealed chimney have all been conquered by this curious fellow, so he will need a spacious, secure home with plenty of enrichment, interactive play and someone who has the time to keep that clever mind and busy body entertained. He is also extremely food motivated – the sound of a single piece of food hitting the floor can apparently be heard from anywhere in the house!
Dagwood has excellent litter tray habits, although his positioning can occasionally mean his bottom hangs over the edge, so a large tray with higher sides would be ideal. He is looking for a cat-savvy adopter who understands feline body language, can recognise when his energy is building and will redirect him calmly into appropriate play. Give Dagwood the space, enrichment and understanding he needs and you’ll be rewarded with a funny, intelligent and affectionate companion who plays hard, loves his people and naps even harder.

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
