About Buddy - 9 Year Old Kelpie
🐾 Buddy – 9 year old Kelpie (Male) - Your future shadow, sidekick, and best Buddy
Buddy’s story hasn’t been an easy one. He spent the first nine years of his life as a failed working dog, living on a chain, fed only every few days, never shown love, never taught his name, and never invited inside a home. Despite all of that, Buddy has held onto the gentle, loyal nature that makes kelpies so special.
🌟 Personality & Temperament
Buddy is a sweetheart with a classic kelpie desire to be close to his person. He’ll follow you around all day, quietly checking in, hoping for a pat or simply happy to be near you. He’s affectionate, people focused, and absolutely ready to make up for lost time in the cuddles department.
He’s incredibly smart and learns quickly, but the world is still very new to him. After a lifetime of deprivation, everything is interesting, distracting, and worth investigating. He’s curious, loves exploring, and is slowly learning how to “dog” in a normal home environment.
Buddy tries to play with his foster siblings but doesn’t quite know how yet — he’s enthusiastic but socially awkward in the most endearing way.
🐶 Socialisation & Training
Because Buddy had no socialisation, he’s still developing basic skills and confidence. He didn’t even know his name when he arrived, but he’s picking things up fast. He will thrive with gentle guidance, patience, and a family who understands that he’s learning everything for the first time.
🏡 Ideal Home
Buddy would suit:
• A family where someone is home more often than not, who will include him in daily life and let him be the companion he longs to be.
• An only dog, where he can soak up all the attention, or
• A calm, friendly dog who won’t be put off by his clumsy social skills and can help show him the ropes.
Despite being a kelpie, Buddy doesn’t have the high energy needs typical of the breed. His previous sedentary lifestyle means he’s happy with moderate daily activity — a walk, some exploring, and plenty of companionship.
💛 What Buddy Deserves
Buddy has never known love until now. He had never been inside a house, never had a soft bed, never had someone who cared. He deserves a home that will cherish him, protect him, and show him what life is supposed to feel like.
In return, Buddy will give his new family endless affection, loyalty, and those famous kelpie cuddles. He truly just wants to be someone’s best Buddy.
Buddy’s adoption fee is $400. He is microchipped, registered, desexed and vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks and worms. He is available for adoption in NSW and ACT. He is in foster care in Booral, NSW.
