About Louie & Daisy
We have 2 amazing miniature smooth haired Dachshunds looking for a home together. They are a bonded pair and cannot be separated. Louie is 5 years old, black and tan (D.O.B. 31.07.2021) and Daisy was born on 29.11.21 and is chocolate and tan in colour.
Louie is registered with the Master Dog Breeders and Associates - and both dogs have a Certificate of Pedigree. They were purchased from the same breeder, but are not related.
Everyone knows that the Dackie has been a very popular breed over the past few years and there are a lot of breeders out there, trying to make a quick dollar. LOUIE and DAISY have come from a hone where their circumstances have changed and in the best interests of their pets, they make the decision to rehome them. We do not judge in these circumstances, and it is our intention to find them the best home that they deserve, remembering that they still have many happy years ahead of them.
Anyone who owns a Dackie usually loves the breed unconditionally - we have a fabulous Dackie Club here in Port Macquarie where they have weekly get togethers.
You'll often see them walking their dogs together along the streets and waterways.
So, we know Dachshunds are very loving and loyal dogs, but they are stubborn. It is important that they are socialised from an early age, hence the walking group!
Our dackies will require a secure backyard to explore in, doesn't need to be huge, but they also require two walks a day.
Louie and Daisy are in foster care and have settled in nicely, they adapt to many situations, there are 2 cats living with them, but we would prefer a home without cats.
Daisy is a bit of a yapper! Not unexpected, remember they were originally bred as hunting dogs to alert humans to prey.
These cuties would suit a single person or a couple who spend a lot of time at home. They love human company and enjoy plenty of cuddles. We do not want these dogs exposed to young children for the simple reason that dackies are prone to having back problems, meaning they should avoid jumping off tall furniture or running up and down stairs.
They need 24 hour access to the home, and must be allowed to sleep inside. In these cold winter months, they have been happy to wear their little jackets to keep them warm, their short coat doesn't offer them much protection, but keeps grooming costs to a minimum!
We would like prospective adoptees to research this breed, if they are not familiar with it, before applying for these Dackies. They are not for everyone, but once you have owned a Dackie, it is hard to move on to any other breed!
Daisy will be desexed within the next couple of weeks, Louie and Daisy are fully vaccinated and have a clear health report from our vets.

Adoption details
The first step is to phone or email Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. for assessment regarding prospective ownership and pet suitability.
Adoption Application forms must be completed.
A property inspection will be carried out on properties in the Port Macquarie area so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you’ve selected. Proof of home ownership will be required. If renting your home, a letter from the owner’s agent confirming that the pet is allowed will be required.
A 2 week trial period commences on the day of adoption. If, for any reason, the dog is returned to Midcoast Dog Rescue within the trial period, the total adoption fee paid will be refunded.
All Midcoast Dog Rescue animals come desexed, microchipped, vaccinated (up to date), vet checked ,wormed, flea and tick treated.

Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog.
