About Rex
Meet Rex š¾
Rex is a big, lovable goofball with an even bigger heart. Full of enthusiasm for life, he's an affectionate, intelligent boy who wants nothing more than to be involved in whatever his people are doing. Whether you're heading out for an adventure or simply pottering around the garden, expect Rex to be right there beside you, curious about everything and always ready to join in.
An active lifestyle is where Rex truly shines. He loves long walks, hiking, bike rides, swimming and games of fetch, and if there's water nearby, you'll probably find him in it! Pools, sprinklers, puddles ā if it's wet, Rex is having fun. Even after a couple of hours of exercise, he can still have plenty of energy left, so he's looking for a home that enjoys getting outdoors and can provide the physical exercise and mental enrichment he craves.
Rex is a very clever dog who learns quickly with positive reinforcement and loves having a job to do. He already knows several commands, including sit, come, wait and heel, and he's eager to please when training is kept fun and consistent. Like many young, enthusiastic dogs, he can become distracted when excitement gets the better of him, but he responds well to patient guidance.
He's a social boy who loves meeting other dogs and has lived happily with both dogs and cats. He's respectful of other dogs' signals if they don't want to play and has also spent time around livestock, where his initial curiosity soon gives way to losing interest. At home he can sometimes be possessive of toys with his canine housemate, but this hasn't been an issue with unfamiliar dogs.
Rex is fully toilet trained, travels well in a secure travel crate (which can go with him to his new home), and settles nicely once he's had enough exercise. He's also wonderfully entertaining, with a flair for the dramatic that has stayed with him since puppyhood. Before an exciting outing he can't help himself, celebrating with enthusiastic howls, moans and happy dances that are guaranteed to make you laugh.
Because Rex becomes so excited when visitors arrive or it's time for an adventure, he can jump up and accidentally knock people over without meaning to. He's simply overwhelmed by life in the best possible way! His new family will need to continue helping him learn calmer greetings and appropriate ways to channel that excitement.
Rex forms strong bonds with his people and prefers to be included in family life. While he can be left during the workday, he does find departures difficult and benefits from consistent routines and plenty of enrichment to help him settle. Like many intelligent, active dogs, boredom is his biggest enemy. Without enough physical and mental stimulation he may chew inappropriate items or entertain himself in ways his humans would rather he didn't.
Rex is looking for an experienced, active home that understands large, energetic dogs and is ready to embrace all the fun, laughter and adventure he brings. In return, you'll gain a loyal, affectionate companion who will happily accompany you on every walk, every road trip, every weekend adventure and every moment in between.
