Meet Pickles, a very clever, affectionate and adaptable little Dachshund who, in the words of his foster dad, is "an absolute joy".
He is a real people dog — cuddly, companionable and happiest when he is close to his humans. He loves children, gets along well with other dogs and has settled beautifully into foster care with two male Cavaliers.
The day after he arrived, Pickles decided that his foster dad was his person, and they have been best mates ever since. If there is a lap available, Pickles will happily occupy it; if not, he is quite content to commandeer the recliner instead. He is a bit of a sook, a bit of a couch potato and very easy to love.
It is obvious from his behaviour that Pickles has been a much-loved pet in his past. He is comfortable in the home, uses the doggy door, knows his basic commands and is generally not much of a barker, although he will sound the alarm if someone comes to the door.
Pickles does have a strong-willed streak, which is very much part of his Dachshund personality. He can be a little stubborn and occasionally treats commands as optional, so he will do best with someone who provides clear, consistent boundaries and is happy to remind him, gently but firmly, who is in charge.
Pickles loves his tucker and loves the couch, which may go some way to explaining why he is carrying some extra weight. But he's now on a sensible weight-loss program and his weight is only going one way — down!
All in all, Pickles is a funny, loving and very engaging little character who has completely won over his foster family. ❤️
