Banks is a handsome Kelpie with a dollop of Staffordshire Bull Terrier — just enough to add an abiding love of people to the intelligence, loyalty and alertness of the Kelpie.
He was a much-loved family dog who grew up with children and another dog, a female. The loss of his former home has affected him deeply, and it is clear that he is grieving for the people he loved. We are therefore very keen to find this gentle, devoted boy a permanent home as soon as possible.
Banks is an exceptionally well-trained and well-mannered family dog. He is house-trained, loves travelling in the car and has impeccable manners inside the home. He is very much an indoor dog and wants to be close to his people, quietly sharing their daily life.
He has a very short, easy-care coat and sheds very little. He is quiet around the home and is not inclined to bark unless there is something he believes his family should know about.
Banks has lived happily with children, including little ones, and his abiding love of people is one of his loveliest qualities. He would make a loyal sidekick and quiet protector for a family who wants a dog to be truly part of their lives.
He would be perfectly content as an only dog. In foster care, however, he is getting along very well with a young, submissive male Cattle Dog. He has ignored cats when they have been outside in the yard, but he has not yet met a cat face to face inside the home, so we cannot describe him as fully cat-tested.
Banks is respectful of ordinary fencing and was previously trained to a hidden fence. However, he is physically capable of climbing if he believes it is the only way to reach his humans. His new home will therefore need secure fencing and, most importantly, plenty of companionship.
Banks’s ideal home will offer:
❤️ Human company for most, and preferably all, of the day
❤️ A place inside the home as a much-loved member of the family
❤️ Secure fencing
❤️ Children or adults who will appreciate his gentle, loyal nature
❤️ Either life as an only dog or a compatible canine companion
❤️ Plenty of affection, inclusion and reassurance while he settles
Banks is not looking for a home where he will spend long days alone. He has already lost the family around whom his life revolved and now needs someone prepared to become his person again.
In return, Banks offers devotion for life. Once he gives you his heart, he will stand beside you, quietly watch over you and love you with everything he has.

No known pre-existing conditions.
Heartworm Information
We don't know if Banks has received heartworm protection throughout his life. However, heartworm disease is uncommon in the Southern Downs, so ARK does not routinely heartworm test or administer heartworm prevention to dogs in our care. Should a successful applicant wish to have a heartworm test performed before adoption, we are happy to arrange this.
