Dora is a classic Blue Cattle Dog: solidly built, beautifully marked with a single mask, highly intelligent, alert and deeply loyal.
She is loving and devoted once she knows and trusts you. As is common with the breed, Dora can be aloof and shy with strangers and takes time to warm up. She does not give her affection indiscriminately, but once you have earned it, you will have a faithful companion for life.
Dora previously lived as the companion of one person and had limited opportunities for wider socialisation. She has not spent much time out in the big wide world and may need time and patience to become comfortable in unfamiliar places and around new people.
Dora has had no exposure to children or cats since being in ARK care. But in her foster home, she has proved very dog-friendly with both large and small dogs of both sexes. She is naturally well-mannered with people and dogs alike and has settled comfortably into her foster household. She is not a nuisance barker and generally barks only when there is something worth barking at.
We don't know if Dora has been accustomed to going for walks on a lead, so this may be a new skill for her. She is, however, young, clever, eager to please her special person and very trainable. With calm, consistent guidance, she should make good progress.
It is not known whether Dora previously lived inside a home, although we suspect she has. She currently lives exclusively outdoors at her foster home, so her indoor manners and house-training status are unknown. Her adopter should be prepared to introduce her gradually to indoor life and household routines. Being an intensely loving and loyal dog, we believe she would enjoy being an inside companion.
Dora’s ideal home will offer:
✔️ Secure, good-quality fencing
✔️ Space to run and play
✔️ Someone home much of the time and/or another compatible dog for company
✔️ A calm, patient household willing to let her settle at her own pace
Previous Australian Cattle Dog experience will be highly regarded. Dora is not particularly well suited to apartment or townhouse living unless her family is very active and able to provide plenty of exercise and stimulation away from the home.
Dora may take a little time to adjust to a busy or highly social household and should not be pushed into too much too soon. For someone who appreciates the intelligence, loyalty and quiet devotion of a true Australian Cattle Dog, she will be a very rewarding companion.
