Rio is a big, beautiful gentleman with an even bigger heart just waiting to be discovered. Meeting new people and adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings can be overwhelming for him, so he'll need a patient family who will give him the time and personal space he needs to settle in. Once he feels safe, you'll be rewarded with the loving, gentle companion that's been quietly waiting to shine.
A peaceful home is at the top of Rio's wish list. Loud noises and busy households aren't his style, so he'd be happiest in a calm, quiet environment without children or canines, where he can relax at his own pace and enjoy life in comfort.
Rio is also working towards a healthier future. He's currently on a weight loss journey, and his new family will need to help him maintain his healthy lifestyle once he reaches his goal weight.
When Rio came into CPS's care, he was suffering from pain in his left hind leg due to an old injury. To give him the best quality of life, the difficult decision was made to amputate the leg. He has recovered beautifully from surgery and now gets around confidently on three legs, proving that missing a leg certainly doesn't stop him from enjoying life. For his safety, Rio will need to remain an indoor-only cat.

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
