❤️ MEET MAX
Max is a beautiful, affectionate boy who has settled into foster care remarkably easily. He is social, adaptable and easygoing, with a lovely balance of enthusiasm for an outing and the ability to relax quietly beside his people afterwards.
He loves cuddles and being close to his humans, but is quiet and well-mannered, rarely barks and doesn't jump up on people.
His foster mum describes him as “a really good listener, keen to please and eager to learn.”

He has also demonstrated excellent recall. On an outing to Brown Falls he briefly gave chase to a kangaroo but quickly returned when called — a good indication of how connected he is to his person.
🐶 DOG-FRIENDLY & ADAPTABLE
Max is dog-friendly and has adapted easily to sharing his foster home with another dog. He has also happily met visiting dogs and enjoyed outings where other dogs were present.
He could live with another compatible dog or be equally content as an only dog with plenty of human companionship.
His response to cats is currently unknown.

Max enjoys being out and about without being an especially high-energy dog.

His favourite observation post is on top of the outdoor table, where he likes to sit and watch the world go by.
🏡 HOME LIFE
Max is very much an inside/outside dog who enjoys being part of everyday family life. He is accustomed to having either his humans around for much of the time or the companionship of another dog, so he wouldn't suit a home where he was routinely left outside alone for long periods.
Despite being a mature gentleman, Max will still occasionally chew something left within reach, so suitable chew toys and a little sensible management are needed.

Max would suit someone looking for an affectionate, well-mannered companion who enjoys walks, car trips and adventures but is equally happy relaxing at home.
His ideal home will offer:

✔ Another compatible dog or humans who are around much of the time
At seven years old, Max is at that lovely stage of life where he still has plenty of enthusiasm for an adventure but knows how to settle when the day is done.
A willing companion when it's time to go somewhere and a quiet, affectionate mate when it's time to stay home — Max really does offer the best of both worlds.

Heartworm Information
Max came to us through the pound and, as a result, we do not have access to his vaccination history which is why we've answered "no" to the question about whether he's received heartworm prevention in the past 12 months. However, heartworm disease is uncommon in the Southern Downs, so ARK does not routinely heartworm test or administer heartworm prevention to dogs in our care. Should a successful applicant wish to have a heartworm test performed before adoption, we are happy to arrange this.
Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
