Cleopatra

When racing pigeon Cleopatra was grounded, her finder knew something wasn’t right.

Thankfully, Cleopatra’s finder suspected this and delivered them to our vet where lo and behold : Cleopatra was in poor shape!

Starving and injured by what we suspect was a rodent, it was evident she had been struggling for at least a few days and wouldn’t have had much time left outside. She did not stop eating when she was finally safe!

Things went from bad to worse when one of the wounds on her foot become infected and penetrated the bone. Even though we started antibiotics on intake, and put her on stronger ones when it become problematic, it was too late to save her toe which had now become crooked and lame.

After a few months of stabilisation, Cleopatra is fat, happy and healthy (AND adoptable!). Her missing toe and funky head are a permanent reminder of how close she came to death.

Cleo is making leaps and bounds learning to trust people again, but at the moment we think she would do best in a home that would accept her with another pigeon friend to provide some support. Cleo is still young and at an age where with a bit of work and time she will become a wonderful companion for you.
