Meet Nala, a beautiful young girl with a soft heart, a sweet nature and a deep desire to be close to her people.
Nala is what we affectionately call a Velcro dog. She loves human company and wants to be near the people she trusts. If you are looking for a loyal little companion who will happily follow you around, curl up close and make you feel adored, Nala may be your girl.
Born on 1 March 2025, Nala is still a young dog. She weighed only 15 kg on 9 March 2026, so although she has the lovely solid look of an English Staffy mix, she is not a large dog. She is a neat, compact girl with a very big heart.
Nala has only recently come out of the pound and has had a lot of change in a very short time. Because of this, she will need time to decompress, settle and understand that she is finally safe. She is super friendly and sweet-tempered, but she is still learning what is expected of her.
She sleeps well at night with no disturbances and is already showing herself to be a loving, affectionate little companion. She is house-trained.
Her basic commands need some work, although this may simply be because she is still settling into a new environment after the uncertainty of pound life. With patience, routine and kind guidance, we think Nala will blossom.
Nala can be a bit of a space invader with other dogs. She is not nasty — she just needs to learn her manners and understand that not every dog wants enthusiastic close contact straight away. For this reason, she would probably do well as an only dog so she does not have to share the love. However, with time, patience and sensible introductions, we're confident she can also learn to live politely with the right dog.
Nala has had no exposure to children or cats since being in ARK care.
Her ideal home will be calm, kind and patient. She needs people who understand that rescue dogs do not always arrive perfectly polished — sometimes they need a little time to exhale, learn the household rhythm and realise they belong.
In return, Nala will give you her whole heart.
She is desexed, vaccinated and ready for the next chapter of her life — one where she is loved, included and finally home.

HEARTWORM INFORMATION
Nala came to us from the pound so we have no background information on heartworm treatment. However, heartworm disease is uncommon in the Southern Downs, so ARK does not routinely heartworm test or administer heartworm prevention to dogs in our care.
Should a successful applicant wish to have a heartworm test performed before adoption, we are happy to arrange this.
Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
