Meet Baylon, AKA The Professor!

Baylon came to us about 8 months ago from a pound. It was obvious that he had some medical issues, and we were happy to help him.

Baylon had bad teeth and some pretty significant hair loss, along with a range of other smaller issues.

Vets were suspicious that Baylon was suffering from either a problem with his thyroid or Cushings disease and he tested positive for Cushings.

Cushings, otherwise known as hyperadrenocorticism, is a condition caused by abnormally high levels of cortisol in the body. Common symptoms include excessive drinking and urination, increased appetite, pot-belly appearance, and hair loss. Cushings is often diagnosed in older animals but treatment, in the form of daily medication is available.

When Baylon became a KPR kid, he automatically went into our palliative care program. He was very fragile, and we had no idea what his future held. We knew that it would take months to get his health under control and we were unsure how he would react to his medication.

Incredibly, Baylon has thrived, and we are now visiting the option of finding him a forever family. He is an old boy (vet estimates 12.5years) but, as he did not have a microchip, this is merely an educated guess.

Baylon is an Australian Terrier. He is quite independent, but he is absolutely fine with other dogs. He takes his medication easily and is well behaved in the house.

We are going to be looking for a special home for Baylon. Due to his age and ongoing medical costs, his adoption fee will be $220. We ask that potential adopters find out medication costs etc from their vet before applying as costs can vary.
