Meet Gus - the wombat potato!

Gus is a handsome British Bulldog who came into our trainer's care after experiencing several traumatic events throughout his life. Although he had a wonderful start, he was unfortunately let down by circumstances beyond his control. Since entering our care, Gus has undergone extensive rehabilitation and has made remarkable progress. His past no longer defines him, and he is now ready to find the loving, permanent home he deserves.

A full behavioural and medical history will be provided to his successful adopters. However, out of respect for the circumstances surrounding his surrender, these details will remain private and will not be shared publicly.

At heart, Gus is an affectionate, loyal boy who absolutely adores his people. Like many dogs with a difficult past, he can occasionally have some "big feelings," particularly when meeting unfamiliar people. With calm guidance, a few minutes to decompress, and a handful of treats, Gus quickly realises there's nothing to worry about. Once you've earned his trust, you'll have a devoted friend for life.

Despite his occasional bursts of enthusiasm, Gus is very much a typical Bulldog. His favourite hobbies include sleeping, eating, and then sleeping some more—preferably curled up beside his people on the couch or in bed. He enjoys his daily walks but does not require excessive exercise, particularly during warmer weather, as Bulldogs can be sensitive to heat.

Gus is in excellent health. He has no known medical concerns, is desexed, fully vaccinated, and has never shown any indication that he requires the airway or eye surgeries that are sometimes common in Bulldogs. His only ongoing care is a simple daily wipe of his facial folds to keep them clean and healthy.

Following his rehabilitation, Gus has learnt to feel comfortable around other dogs again. However, he has shown that he simply prefers the company of people and has little interest in forming relationships with other dogs. For this reason, we are seeking a home where Gus can be the only dog and enjoy being the centre of attention.

He walks beautifully on lead and is generally a pleasure to take out. Due to his history of playing chase games with children riding bikes, he can become a little overexcited around bicycles and scooters. This behaviour is very manageable, and his new family will receive a comprehensive handover along with ongoing training support to ensure everyone is set up for success.

Gus has not been formally tested with cats, although during incidental encounters he has shown very little interest in chasing them. He has also been good with children; however, we believe he would be best suited to a home with children aged 12 years and older who can understand and respect his space.

He is fully toilet trained and crate trained. Gus settles well when left alone and has shown no signs of separation anxiety, destructive behaviour, excessive barking, or digging. He will alert bark when someone approaches the property, making him an excellent little watchdog.

During the warmer months, Gus is best kept indoors where he can stay cool and comfortable. A home with secure indoor access, such as a dog door, would be ideal. His crate remains a valuable management tool when visitors arrive, as it allows him a few minutes to settle before confidently greeting new people.

Gus has worked incredibly hard to overcome his past and is now looking for a family who will continue to support him while enjoying everything that makes him such a special dog. In return, you'll receive unwavering loyalty, endless affection, plenty of laughs, and a wonderfully quirky companion who simply wants to be loved.

Gus's new home requires the following:

- A home with everyone over 16.
- A patient family who understands Bulldogs and their specific needs.
- To have access to inside during the day and to sleep at night.
- Fully fenced yard. Large or small doesn’t matter as long as he gets to go for daily walks.
