Meet Pebbles & River! đŸ
Pebbles (black & white, DOB: 1/3/23) and River (ginger & white, DOB: 1/6/24) are a gorgeous bonded pair searching for their forever home together.
These sweet girls are incredibly affectionate, love a cuddle, and are always first in line when it's mealtime! Whether they're snuggled up beside you or eagerly waiting for dinner, they're guaranteed to bring plenty of love and laughter to your home.
Pebbles is a special little lady with a very small left eye, which she is blind in, and a small cataract in her right eye. Despite this, she doesn't let it slow her down one bit and confidently gets around just like any other piggy. She has been thoroughly assessed by the specialists at Animal Eye Services, who confirmed there are no underlying medical concerns. Her full report is available for prospective adopters to review.
River is the perfect healthy little potatoâhappy, beautiful, and always ready for cuddles (or snacks!).

Medical notes
Prognosis:
The right eye is blind and is much smaller than the left. The changes visualised today are more suggestive of
microphthalmia, rather than trauma leading to phthisis bulbi. The eyelids have good apposition and eye development
is required for the eyelids to grow properly. The eye also appears very comfortable and has what I believe to be a
dorsal symblepharon. However, these things can occur post-natally and may look very similar to a microphthalmic
eye when very chronic. The IOP is also normal which is more supportive of microphthalmia than phthisis bulbi. The
eye does appear slightly dry and should be monitored. Artificial tears may be required to maintain comfort. I think it is
unlikely this eye will become a problem in the future, however, corneal ulcers may occur again. Microphthalmia is
seen in roan x roan and the Abyssinian breed more commonly.
The left eye has a cataract starting which is common in older guinea pigs.
Adoption details
Qld Guinea Pig Refuge holds open days at the Albany Creek Scout Den in North Brisbane on the first and third Saturday of each month. All adoptions require pre-approval and your application form should be submitted for processing at least two days prior.
The adoption fee for our guinea pigs is $25 each. Desexed guinea pigs are $35 each. They come fully health checked; worm and mite treated; and have been living at their foster carerâs house where they receive handling time.
