Tux's story hasn't been an easy one. He came into our care as a stray, having never known the comfort of a loving home, regular meals, or the safety of having someone looking out for him. It's no surprise that trusting people doesn't come naturally to him.
Since arriving, Tux has been making quiet but meaningful progress. Day by day, he's slowly letting his guard down and learning that people can be kind. Watching him take those small steps towards trust has been incredibly rewarding, and while he still has a way to go, he's proving that with patience and understanding, he's capable of building wonderful relationships.
Tux is looking for a very patient, compassionate person who will let him settle at his own pace and continue the journey we have started. He won't be the cat that rushes into your arms, but for someone willing to invest the time, the bond you'll build with him will be truly special.
Tux is FIV positive, which means he will need to live indoors only, or have access to a secure outdoor enclosure where he can safely enjoy the fresh air. FIV-positive cats can live long, happy lives with the right care and make just as loving companions as any other cat.

Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
