Hi, I’m Ashy. Around here I’m also known as “Spicy Nugget” by my Foster Mum and, on particularly dramatic days, “The Ewok Vampire Queen” because I sometimes lift my lip to show off my impressive little fangs.

Life started out a little scary for me. I came into care with my two siblings, and it was clear we hadn’t spent much time learning that humans can be kind. Since then, I’ve been working hard on building my confidence. I’m happy to roam my foster home, play with the other cats and enjoy all the fun life has to offer, but humans can still make me nervous. If you approach me too quickly, I’ll probably run away or give a little hiss to let you know I’m unsure. It’s not personal—I’m really trying my best to learn that people are safe.

The good news is that patience goes a long way with me. If you move slowly and confidently, I’ll happily accept treats, gentle pats and even a brush. I don’t enjoy being picked up, but every day I’m making little steps forward and showing my foster family that I really do want to trust humans. My hisses may say one thing, but my relaxed ears usually tell the real story!

Companions (Children, Cats & Dogs)
Other cats are my absolute favourite thing in the world! I adore my feline friends and get along beautifully with all the adult cats in my foster home.

I have a particularly big soft spot for my giant tabby foster brother, Kahlo, who is also looking for his forever home. He’s just as unsure about humans as I am, and sometimes I even lie on top of him so the humans can’t catch me if they need to! We make quite the team.

Because I’m still learning to trust people, I’m looking for a calm home without children, as I would likely find them overwhelming. I will also need a feline companion in my new home, as having another cat around gives me confidence and helps me feel safe.

I haven’t met any dogs yet, but my foster carer thinks I could adjust to living with a calm, gentle, cat-savvy dog if introductions are done slowly and respectfully.

My PURR-fect home would be with an extremely patient person and willing to let me settle in at my own pace. I’m not the kind of kitty who will jump straight into your lap, but if you give me time, understanding and gentle encouragement, I’ll continue learning that humans can be trusted. I’ll need a feline friend to show me the ropes.
