About Dusty
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Dusty
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Bullmastiff x
BREED TRAITS: originally bred as a guard dog, the Bullmastiff is affectionate with family but can be standoffish with strangers. Sensitive and loving to his clan he is a powerful and courageous guardian They are independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog he needs to be protected from overheating. They have low to medium energy requirements but can excel in various dog sports. He is a drooler and is not for novice owners
***************************************************************************************
ASSETS: He’s easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, active, sweet and playful! He’s a little timid when first meeting people but soon warms up once he’s comfortable and has a ton of love to give to his new family.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Dusty loves to play fetch and has a favourite blue ball. He loves to be around his people and enjoys playing on the trampoline with the children in his foster home. He is gentle with respectful children.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Dusty has a gorgeous personality and is a joy to have around. He likes to nibble lightly on hands just in case you haven’t noticed he is there!
OTHER ANIMALS: Dusty gets on well with other friendly dogs and enjoys playing with them, although he can be a bit full-on with smaller dogs but with no aggression. He could live with a friendly dog who also loves to interact after gentle, supervised introductions. He is also being fostered with cats, and is curious and playful with them – he has chased a couple of times when in playful mode but hasn’t shown any aggression to them. He could possibly live with a very confident cat that will stand its ground after careful supervised introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Dusty walks well on the lead. He hasn’t lived inside so will need some housetraining, and there may be some accidents while he’s getting the hang of things. He is crate trained and knows it is his safe space to sleep. He will bark at strange noises and likes to chew when left alone which is normal for a pup - good exercise will help to wear him out. He has a medium energy level and if his owner spends time with training and keeping his mind active he will flourish. He knows a few commands but will need further training on these and his recall in his new home. Dusty has shown no chase instinct towards chickens or cattle on the farm and his carer says he loves licking the baby calves clean.
ESSENTIALS for Dusty:
** An active, loving home. Dusty would prefer a home with someone who is home more often than not – his foster home has been on a farm with a stay at home mum.
** Dusty will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. He needs an owner who is willing to involve him in daily activities as he wants to be your best buddy.
**Dusty needs a well fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Dusty loves to be with his people so we would love him to be given access inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
Dusty would go well in a home with gentle, dog-savvy children over 6 years of age or an adult only home. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with or at least have regular meets with doggy friends.
