Jericho

Due to Jericho being hairless he needs help with regulating his body temperate. He needs a warm house in winter and a cool house in summer and doggy coats on winter days and sun protection on hot days.

Jericho loves human affection more than anything. He’ll follow you around like a little shadow and just wants to be near his people. When his people aren’t there, he likes having another doggy pal around to relax with.

He’s getting more and more confident with new people but can still be a bit shy if he meets people outside of the house. He loves when new people or visitors meet him at home where he feels most confident.

He’s not overly playful, we’ve tried to see if he likes balls, plushies etc, but he’s not overly interested in them. He loves watching tv on the couch and going for walks around the neighbourhood and chasing birds at the dog park.

Jericho has spent lots of time around a young active child and is very calm and well mannered, he can live with children of any age.

Jericho loves being around other small, calm dogs. He is very friendly with other dogs at the dog park. He will growl if he feels like another big dog comes on too strong and will need his owners to advocate for him in these situations, but otherwise he really enjoys running around with other dogs and loves the company of our 6yo Italian greyhound, they are often found snoozing together on the bed or in the morning sun.

Jericho has been very skittish around cars, car parks and getting into the car, we’ve spent lots of time desensitising him and whilst he still is very tentative around cars, he’s shown so much progression. He currently sits in the back seat attached with a dog seatbelt and he tends to handle this quite well.

Jericho is getting better on his lead. When he came to us, he was very nervous on the lead but now loves going for walks. But still learning not to pull.

Jericho has learnt to sit, although he won’t sit on a tiled floor as he doesn’t have much hair so it’s probably too cold. He’s also learning to sit and wait for his food, and his recall is getting really good as well. He’s extremely food motivated and wants to please his people, so additional training wouldn’t be too hard.

Jericho is 100% toilet trained and taught himself how to use the doggy door when he needs it. He sleeps in his cozy crate at night, and sleeps in a dog bed or on his favourite chair during the day.

Jericho can happily live with cats too!

Jericho’s foster carer takes him to work sometimes and he’s been fine taking the train and being at work, he mainly just sleeps and is a very good boy.

It is recommended for this breed to have dental checks at a minimum yearly if not more frequently. They may need regular, dental X-rays, scale and polish and possible extractions in the future.

Jericho is looking for the following in his new home:

- People home often
- Another desexed dog in the home (small to medium in size).
- Regular vet checks
- To be allowed inside the home at all times and to sleep of a night.
- Owners experience in the breed or willing to research about the breed.
- A full fenced yard.
