Joey is an exuberant 8-month-old German Shepherd (possibly a slight mix) who has found himself in the pound due to a marriage breakdown. This gorgeous pup is growing up in a cage, spending the days alone, wondering what he did to deserve this; understandably, he is becoming stressed and frustrated, we really need to get this boy out!

Joey is a little pocket rocket, full of energy and enthusiasm, he is an active boy that will need plenty of exercise and stimulation in his new home. Joey is not suited to the couch potato life and is looking for someone that lives an active lifestyle that can include him in daily outings and adventures. Joey would love to live on a property where he can run and burn energy.

Joey loves people and is very friendly to everyone he meets, especially if they have a treat! Joey will lean into you for a pat and is very affectionate, giving lots of kisses. Joey is still a pup and is learning impulse control; when he is excited, he will jump up and mouth his humans for attention, he is easily redirected and responds well when told no or given another command to regain his focus. Joey would be best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 12, and who have experience living with boisterous large breed dogs.

Joey is extremely clever and already knows his basic commands, he is keen to learn and is motivated by both treats and toys, picking things up quickly when given clear direction and encouragement. Joey will thrive with ongoing training, his manners and leash skills need work, we would recommend he work with a trainer either 1on1 or in a group setting to get the best out of this sponge-like dog who is so ready to absorb everything and learn.

Joey needs an experienced handler, someone that will give firm but fair boundaries and ensure this goofball is given very clear direction and feedback, he is not suited to a first time dog owner and would do well with someone who has working breed experience that can ensure his physical and mental stimulation needs are fullfilled.

Joey enjoys the company of other dogs, he gets very frustrated when he first sees them, barking and pulling, wanting to say hello. All Joey wants to do is play and he enjoys playing rough; with a well-matched dog, he has an absolute ball, however, may be too much for some dogs. Joey could do well living with another large breed dog, one who is active and loves to wrestle and play bitey face. Initial separation and time apart may be needed until Joey's manners have developed further. Joey would also be fine as the only dog in his new home; he will need ongoing training to greet new dogs appropriately and without so much enthusiasm.

Joey has not been tested with cats or other small pets, we do not recommend he is rehomed with either.

This gorgeous pup has so much potential, he is playful and engaged with humans and is so keen to learn and be a part of the big wide world. In the right hands of someone dedicated to putting in the training, he will be a superstar companion. The sky is the limit for this boy, we could see him becoming an obedience champion or excelling in other dog sports, he is ready, whenever you are!
