Some dogs give their heart away the moment they meet you. Simba isn't one of them.
Simba is a little different. He'll watch you first, deciding whether you're one of the good ones. But once you've earned his trust, you'll discover one of the sweetest, most affectionate little companions you could ever hope to meet.
His foster mum won him over in no time at all. She describes him simply as "the sweetest little soul." She says he's unlike any dog she's ever cared for.
"He just looks at me with loving eyes that bore into my heart."
That's Simba.
This handsome little fellow is gentle, loving and incredibly devoted to the people he trusts. He adores affection, happily curls up on his foster mum's lap while she watches television and, at bedtime, loves nothing more than snuggling under the blankets beside her.
Because Simba can be nervous around new people, introductions need to happen on his terms. Rather than reaching over the top of his head, he prefers gentle pats from behind his shoulders first, allowing his confidence to build naturally. Give him a little time and patience and you'll be rewarded with unwavering loyalty.
He's also quite the character.
Simba struts around the house with the confidence of a catwalk model, proudly showing off his handsome looks wherever he goes. And then there's his wonderfully funny toilet routine. When he wees, he balances on his front legs and spins around like a little garden sprinkler — something guaranteed to make you laugh every single time.
Simba is beautifully house-trained and is not much of a barker. He'll happily join in with a few barks while playing with his doggy friends and will let you know if someone arrives at the front door. Rather than rushing forward, though, he'll usually sound the alarm from the safety of the shadows until he's satisfied everything is okay.
One of Simba's greatest joys is the company of other animals. He absolutely loves other small dogs and spends hours happily playing with the resident dog in his foster home. He's also wonderfully comfortable with cats and is quite content to curl up and sleep beside them.
Because Simba is naturally cautious, we believe he'd be happiest in a quieter home. He has had no exposure to children while in foster care and would probably find the noise and activity of young children overwhelming.
Simba's ideal home
🐾 Quiet, patient home
🐾 Another friendly small dog would be wonderful
🐾 Cat-friendly home welcome
🐾 Secure fencing
🐾 Indoors as a much-loved member of the family
🐾 People willing to let trust develop at Simba's pace
🐾 Older or dog-savvy children may be considered, but a quieter adult home is likely to suit him best
If you're prepared to earn Simba's trust, you'll gain a loyal little friend whose loving eyes really do have a way of stealing your heart.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
9 June 2026 - Simba was health-checked, desexed and had six minor teeth and three major teeth extracted. He also had a scale and polish. His vet work amounted to $2,145.
Simba has not been treated for heartworm or paralysis ticks. Southern Downs is considered a low-risk area for both heartworm and paralysis ticks, so ARK does not routinely administer these preventative treatments while dogs are in foster care.
If you would like a heartworm test performed prior to adoption, please let us know.
