About Hughie
At just 29kgs, “Huggable Hughie” considers himself perfectly pint sized for a sneaky snuggle. Any opportunity for closeness is seized by this sweet boy, and he’s more than happy to play big or little spoon (or help himself to an unattended lap). His affectionate antics have won many hearts during his time in foster care, and he loves to make a new human friend to lay the love on.
A handsome fawn hound, Hughie also has a very unique dark grizzle that gives him a handsome wolfie-vibe. His good looks draw compliments and attention from strangers and passerby much to his delight.
While content with his 2 × 20 minute walks on a weekday, Hughie is a weekend warrior who will never say no to an adventure and getting out and about for an hour or two. At his age he is less of a chilled pub-date kind of guy, and prefers to spend time in the great outdoors where he can impress you with his ‘Real Dog TM’ skills like digging and swimming and chasing sticks! He especially loves the beach and gets silly and playful as soon as he hits the sand. A social boy, Hughie loves other dogs of all sizes, and his tail does not stop wagging when he gets to make a new friend. He is currently living as an only dog, but we think he could also enjoy the company of an equally matched canine sibling.
At his smaller stature, sweet temperament, and handsome countenance, Hughie is sure to catch the eye of many prospective adopters. It will be a very lucky home to be matched with him, as he has so much love to give and truly is the best of boys.

Thinking about adopting?
We’d love to help you find your greyhound match!
To get started, we’ll ask for a bit of information about your home and lifestyle on our application form. This helps us make sure we match you with a dog that suits your household and sets both of you up for success.
Many greyhounds come from racing kennels where they’re used to having other dogs around. Some can struggle being left completely alone, which can lead to signs of separation anxiety like barking or chewing.
Because of this, we usually look to rehome greyhounds into homes where they’ll have company - either human or canine - and not be left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis. If that’s not your setup right now, don’t worry as we’re happy to chat about options such as dog walkers, doggy daycare, or taking your greyhound to work.
Our Adoption Checklist:
To be considered for adoption, we ask that you have:
A secure, fully fenced yard (minimum height around hip height)
A home where the dog is allowed to sleep inside at night
A routine that doesn’t leave the dog home alone regularly for long periods (more than 4 hours) without people or another dog for company
If you’re not sure whether you tick every box, please still apply! We’re happy to have a conversation and see if we have a greyhound who might be the right fit.
Please fill in as much detail as you can as there’s no word limit on any question.
