Young adult Labrador mix. Estimated around 2 years old at maximum.

Please note: Hershey is only a medium-sized boy and will likely be around 23–25kg once he gains some condition, although photos can make him appear larger.

Hershey is a sweet, affectionate boy who knows basic commands including sit and shake. He is enthusiastic on lead and will benefit from ongoing training and guidance. He also loves giving "hugs" and we are currently retraining him to only do this when invited, rather than greeting everyone quite so enthusiastically.

Hershey has had a difficult start in life and can be wary of unfamiliar people and situations. When he feels unsure or overwhelmed, he may bark, growl or react defensively. We recently saw this again during a meet and greet. However, once given a little time, space and reassurance, Hershey settled within a few minutes and was able to relax.

Importantly, Hershey has never bitten or attempted to bite anyone while in our care.

In his foster home, Hershey is playful, affectionate and loving with the people he trusts. He enjoys companionship and forms strong bonds with his family. He can be a little hand shy at times, suggesting he may not have always been treated kindly in the past.

Hershey can become mildly anxious if left alone for extended periods, although he happily uses his crate as a safe space. With stability, routine and patience, we believe his confidence will continue to grow.

Because of his anxiety around unfamiliar people, Hershey is looking for a calm, experienced and confident home willing to give him time to adjust at his own pace. He is not the type of dog who will instantly welcome strangers into his space, but for the right person, the reward will be well worth it.

Hershey lives happily with other dogs in his foster home and appears to enjoy their company.
At this stage, Hershey is seeking a home without cats or chickens.
