Meet Marley, a handsome little Shih Tzu boy with confidence, charm and a wonderfully big personality.
Marley is a people-loving companion who enjoys being close to his humans. If there is a lap available, he is very happy to occupy it. He loves relaxing on the couch, following his people around the house and being included in daily life. He is affectionate, engaging and full of character — exactly the sort of little dog who makes a house feel like home.
Marley is also a bright boy. He can sit, stay and walk nicely on lead, and he enjoys the encouragement that comes with kind, positive guidance. Like many little dogs with plenty of personality, Marley knows what he likes. He enjoys tasty treats, appreciates attention and is not shy about expressing himself.
Marley will be best suited to an adult home, or a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand that small dogs need their space respected. He does not enjoy little children crowding him, leaning over him or peering into his face, and that is fair enough. Marley needs people who will give him affection, but also read his signals and allow him to feel safe.
When Marley first moves into a new home, he may mark his territory as little male dogs tend to do. This should not be read as a lack of house-training. It is part of the settling-in process.
He may be able to live with another compatible dog after careful introductions, but he would also be very happy as someone’s cherished little companion. Marley is cat friendly.
Marley’s ideal home will be calm, kind and sensible — a home where he is welcomed indoors, included as part of the family, kept well groomed and given the structure he needs to feel settled. In return, he will offer loyalty, companionship, humour and all the charm of a confident little Shih Tzu who knows exactly who he is.
Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate companion dogs, and Marley is no exception. He will need regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable, but day to day he is a lovely, manageable little dog for someone who appreciates his personality.
Marley is looking for a person or family who will love him for who he is: affectionate, clever, confident, charming — and very much his own little man.

No known pre-existing conditions.
Typically Shih-Tzu, Marley has an undershot jaw as you can see in some of the photos. His teeth will be scaled and cleaned prior to adoption.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
