About Barry ๐พ
BARRY IS READY FOR HIS SECOND CHANCE ๐พโค๏ธ
Where are all our Heeler lovers? Barry has been patiently waiting at the pound for well over four weeks, and despite being such a fantastic young dog, he still hasn't had a single enquiry or meet and greet. We can't understand why!
Barry is a 2-year-old Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, and the shy boy who first arrived has completely blossomed. He's now looking fantastic, having put on healthy weight, and his solid little stumpy body is perfectly matched by his adorable wiggly bum and signature stumpy tail that never stops when he's happy.
Once Barry gets to know you, his fun-loving, cheeky Heeler personality shines through.
Barry's favourite things:
๐พ Playing fetch
๐ฆ Splashing around with the hose
๐พ Herding his beloved Wiggle Ball
๐ถ Daily walks (his lead manners are improving every day!)
๐ Learning new things for tasty treats
Barry is incredibly clever, very food motivated and loves having a job to do. Like most Heelers, he thrives with clear rules, routine and confident leadership. He responds really well to a calm but firm owner who sets boundaries, and he's proving just how eager he is to learn. He's no longer jumping up when corrected with a firm "no" and is continuing to improve every day.
We're also working on his toilet training. If he attempts to mark indoors, he responds well to correction and quickly understands what's expected. Barry is a classic intelligent working dog who simply wants someone to show him the rules and be his leader.
Barry and other dogs โค๏ธ
Barry has absolutely impressed us with his lovely manners around other dogs.
He has played beautifully with a friendly, desexed large male dog, and he absolutely loves spending time with all of the girls here at the pound. He's respectful, playful and reads other dogs well.
When paired with confident female dogs, Barry tends to be quite submissive and allows them to take the lead. We think he would be perfectly suited to a home with a friendly, desexed female dogโwhether she's another Heeler or a completely different breed, Barry isn't fussy.
One of the things we love most about Barry is that he enjoys playing with other dogs without constantly pestering them. He's just as happy entertaining himself with his toys before joining back in for another game.
Even better?
โ Not destructive.
โ Not an escape artist.
โ Loves his playtime but also knows how to relax.
If you've watched Barry's videos playing with our beautiful brindle Greyhound, Whippy (who is also looking for her forever home), you'll see just how much fun this boy is.
Barry is looking for:
โ An active home that understands working breeds.
โ Someone willing to continue his training and confidence building.
โ Plenty of exercise, enrichment and inclusion in family life.
โ A confident owner who enjoys having a smart dog by their side.
The hardest part about Barry is understanding why he's still here.
Every day he waits patiently, hoping someone will finally choose him. He's become one of our longer-term pound dogs, and we know the right family is out there. We just need them to see him.
If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, funny companion with loads of personality and a wiggly little stumpy tail that will make you smile every single day, Barry could be your perfect match.
Please don't let Barry wait any longer. Apply today and come and meet this beautiful boy. We think you'll fall in love just as we have.
