A Special Soul Seeking an Experienced, Patient Forever Home.

Con is a truly special, resilient 6-year-old boy who has stolen the hearts of everyone who truly gets to know him. His journey hasn't been easy, but with the right family, his potential is limitless.

Con’s Story:
Con’s life started right here at the rescue as a 1 day old baby. He was adopted out as a happy 2.5 year old, but was recently surrendered back to us due to significant aggressive behaviours. Our veterinary team did a thorough medical workup and discovered the heartbreaking root cause: Con had suffered a past injury to his back and hind legs. The immense pain, combined with being significantly overweight, had caused him to lash out in defence.

His Progress & Current Care:
Once placed on twice-daily pain medication, and a short term foster care arrangement, Con’s intense aggression began to decrease. However, this foster arrangement wasn't maintainable long-term and he needed to be housed at the rescue.

The bustling rescue environment; with the constant smell of other rabbits and rotating volunteers; proved too stressful, causing him to regress.

Everything changed again for Con when he moved into a quiet foster home two months ago. In a stable environment, where he has his own room Con has made breathtaking progress:
• From Fear to Trust: He went from actively charging, biting, and drawing blood to willingly (and even eagerly) approaching the edge of his pen to ask for pats.

• Family Friendly: He now happily accepts hand-fed treats and allows all members of his foster family to lean over his pen to pet him.

• Impeccable Manners: Con is an incredibly clean gentleman! He has perfect litter box habits and meticulously keeps his hay in his tub.

What Con Needs:
In a Bunny-Savvy Home, Con has come incredibly far, but he remains a complex medical and behavioural case. He requires an adult-only (no young children – his current foster home are teenagers and adults), experienced home that understands rabbit body language and won't take his boundaries personally.

The key things to winning Con’s heart:
• Understanding Boundaries: His aggression has downshifted significantly. Instead of unprovoked attacks, his current cues are more communicative: "I’m watching you, and I might nip if you touch the side of my face without permission."

• Patience with Handling: If you push him too far or move too fast, he may still give a warning bite (though these rarely draw blood now).

• The "Grumpy" Treatment: Con absolutely detests being brushed or having his nails clipped. While he will sit perfectly still like a good boy for the actual grooming, he will give you the cold shoulder and make you work for his forgiveness for about two weeks afterward!

• Consistency is Key: Con needs a family where someone is home more often than not. Consistency and routine are vital for him to maintain his trust and form a deep, lifelong bond.

• Chew Enthusiast: Con loves to chew! His new family will need to provide plenty of enrichment toys and cheap carpet tiles to keep his busy mind occupied.

Con is currently being fostered in the Latrobe Valley area. He will require ongoing pain management and a dedicated heart, but the reward of earning this special boy's trust is unmatched.
