Meet Whiskey

TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOUR
Interaction with Adults & Children: Happy to meet all people, gets excited when acknowledged. Can be a little wary towards some males - selective in respect to which males he would like to interact with.
Interaction with other dogs: Generally social, happy to be around and engage in play with his foster brothers who are JR's.
Interaction with cats/other animals: Seemed interested in the smell of rabbits and kangaroos but has not been exposed to cats in the foster home.
Best in a home with other animals? Dogs, suggested because of his potential separation anxiety. He likes to have a playmate on tap for when he wants to play.
Energy level: Medium to high
Confidence level: Definitely likes to be in his Hooman’s company. He can he wary of some people, it does not appear there is a reason to me but he definitely is selective for his own reasons. A few load noises like the rubbish truck have made him skittish.

General personality:
Whiskey has so much love to give! Whether we are hanging out on the couch or just need to be close by, he always wants to be near you—sometimes making sure he’s touching you, too. He is super affectionate and enjoy getting lots of attention and definitely loves being praised when he gets his commands correct.
That said, he can be a bit stubborn when he doesn’t feel like doing something. If he’s busy sniffing around, he might not come right away when you call him, especially since he’s still getting used to his name. On the bright side, he picked up using the doggie door and the ramp up to foster mums bed quickly!
He has an interest in chewing, but potentially a short-term puppy hobby. Shoes, power cords, anything that interests him and that he can get too. His intelligence means in some instance using some of his climbing skills. He is a puppy who needs to be kept stimulated so his creativity doesn’t get side tracked.
Whiskey can be pretty quick getting out the door into the big, wide world. If he spots something to jump on, he'll use it to make getting over the fence a breeze. At that point, calling him back doesn't really work, and if you try to follow him, he'll just keep running. He never goes too far, though—he seems to find it hilarious and eventually come back after a few minutes. Usually, the other dogs barking helps bring him back. A couple of times, I've just gone inside to grab the car keys and a lead, and by the time I get to the front door, he’s already sitting there, waiting to come in.

Walks well on lead: In progress, loves his walks but will need lead training to walk without turning every blade of grass into a sniffari.
Behaviour on walks (pulling, reactivity, confidence): wanders from left side of his Hooman to right continually. Possibly focused on smells
Behaviour in the car: Needs a lot of work. Moves around the car to watch you but barks and becomes anxious and stressed. Strongly recommend travelling him in a secure canvass travel crate.

LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Favourite activities: Watching and protecting the house from strangers, sleeping on the bed with all the family
Favourite treats/toys: balls balls and more balls.
Daily routine in your home: As long as he gets a good walk and plenty of attention, he’s pretty content. He enjoys riding in the car, though he would try to sit on the driver if he wasn’t strapped in! I leave food out, and there’s no competition between Whiskey and his two foster brothers —he doesn’t just eat nonstop because it’s there. He’s a big fan of treats like beef and chicken livers, chicken feet, and chicken necks are all his favourites.
Sleeping habits: At bedtime he sleeps with all the family on the bed. On the morning, he may rest in a dog bed with the sun coming in the window.
Special quirks or adorable behaviours: Whisky is incredibly affectionate, and if you don’t give him enough attention, he’ll gently paw at you until you step things up. He also loves carrying his lead around when it’s clipped to their collar—almost as if to say, “I’m ready, are you?”

ADOPTION INSIGHT
As a puppy, he needs plenty of training. He’s smart and picks things up fast, but he also needs lots of stimulation. If he gets bored, you’ll usually find him playing with balls or coming up with ways to entertain himself. Sometimes, that means chewing the doweling he has pulled out of the window track, a dog coat, wool, socks, or shoes—and proudly showing off his “trophy” in his mouth for everyone to see. He’s eager to learn and loves showering people with affection and companionship.
