Toby Everhart is one of those dogs who is hard not to fall in love with. He is a fun-loving, affectionate and playful young boy who simply loves being around people. Give Toby a toy, some attention and someone to play with and he is one very happy puppy!
Toby has a wonderfully cheerful nature and is always ready for his next adventure. He loves playing with toys, spending time with his humans and socialising with other dogs. He also absolutely loves being carried and enjoys a good cuddle.
Although Toby is still very much a puppy, he has already made a great start with his training. He knows sit and stay, understands "go to bed", and confidently uses a dog door. He is doing well with his house training too.
Toby is confident and can be a little dominant with other dogs. He enjoys testing the boundaries, particularly with other strong-minded dogs, so he will benefit from a family who understands dog behaviour and is prepared to continue teaching him good manners.
He is generally friendly with smaller dogs, but large dogs can be a different story. When he sees bigger dogs while out walking, Toby can become reactive and bark at them. His new family will need to continue working on this through calm, positive training and help him learn that he doesn't need to react.
Toby also has some mild resource guarding around treats. It is currently quite manageable, but his new family should continue working positively on this and make sure treats and other high-value items are handled appropriately.
Toby would suit many different types of homes. He can live happily as an only dog and doesn't need another dog to keep him company. What he really wants is a family who will include him in their lives and give him plenty of attention, exercise, play and affection.
He needs at least 30 minutes of walking each day, along with plenty of playtime and mental stimulation. As an energetic puppy, he will thrive with people who enjoy getting out and about and are happy to continue his training.
Toby travels well in the car, although he can get excited because he is always ready for an adventure!
We haven't yet established how Toby feels about cats or other small animals, so this is something that would need to be carefully considered when choosing his new home.
Toby is still at that wonderful age where he is learning who he is and what the world is all about. He doesn't need to be perfect — he needs someone who will see the lovely dog underneath the puppy excitement and give him the guidance he needs to grow.
With patience, consistency, positive training and lots of love, Toby has the potential to become an incredible companion.
He is happy, affectionate, playful and full of life. The kind of dog who will bring plenty of laughter and love into his family's home.
Toby is ready to find the people who will love him, guide him and make him part of their family for forever.
Could that be you?

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
