Hawkeye

Being a gentleman of a certain age, Hawkeye is a chilled boy who loves the comfort of his home but also a little adventure or two. He has come to us as a senior from trainers who kept him longer than usual for breeding. Despite all his years in kennels, he has adapted fantastically to his new life as a well loved pet, and has fully embraced his inner couch potato.

Hawk likes his routine of two gentle walks per day, he will perform his delighted kangaroo jumps when he can see you reach for the lead. He walks well on a loose leash and is neutral to other dogs as he passes by. His foster carer works from home so he sometimes also gets a bonus 10 minute lunchtime stroll so they can both stretch their legs and get some sunshine. With a walk and breakfast done, Hawk will turn his attentions to the important task of napping the day away. Hawk does get the occasional zoomie, and enjoys play time with his squeaky toys - but at his age such feats of athleticism do tend towards short bursts, with plenty of resting in between.

A man in touch with his emotional needs, Hawk’s foster carers have commented that he is a lot more vocal than other greys who have passed through their household. You’ll never need to guess what this lad is thinking whether that is a polite bark to indicate unacceptable lateness in the usual routine, a big happy groan, a deep sigh (bored of watching you tap away at the computer), or an audible fart on the morning stretch (better out than in!).

Hawk has been introduced to some time home alone without stress so could suit a hybrid working home if he had access to toilet - at a senior age his desire to hold a full bladder is nonexistent, and he doesn’t mind going inside if you haven’t made arrangements for his comfort. If there was another hound in the household for company we think Hawk could do full-time working hours fine, he is a polite and gentle boy with other dogs, and is very conflict avoidant when barked at. When visiting the stall at our Farmer’s Market he happily laid down in the middle of the action and didn’t mind sharing his space (and even being trod on) so long as he was included in all the treats and pats on offer.

Everyone who meets this brindle beauty comments on how his face is so expressive and soft, his gentle easy going demeanour shining through (with just a dash of underlying cheekiness that will come out as he gets to know you). We know that his perfect forever home will look into his eyes and see past his age, knowing that he comes with all the benefits of a snoozy senior who won’t demand endless walks and playtime, and just wants to curl up and keep you company while you watch TV or read a book - maybe there might even be a pub date or two for him to accompany you on.

Health note: Hawkeye recently had a thyroid tumour surgically removed, the margins were good and our vet is confident there will be no further concerns. A full overview of this condition will be provided to prospective adopters.
