About Geronimo
🐾 Meet Geronimo – A Very Special Little Puppy 🐾
Geronimo is a wonderfully lovable little dog with a soft, affectionate nature who adores cuddles, playtime and his food! When he's playing or being showered with affection, his happy personality comes out and you get to see what a lovely little boy he really is. He also loves the toddler in his foster home, who is almost two years old.
Geronimo is a very low-confidence little fellow. He's a true Velcro dog who likes to stay close to his person and looks to them for reassurance rather than confidently heading off to explore. Most of the time he can seem more like a little old man than a carefree puppy, but get him playing or cuddling and his happy side comes out.
His lack of confidence extends to everyday activities. If taken outside to toilet, he needs supervision and encouragement, as he is likely to stay close to the door rather than wander off. If left outside alone, he'll stay by the door and whimper. Being separated from his people is also difficult for him.
We suspect Geronimo may have developed a degree of learned helplessness from his previous experiences. He seems to have learned to wait for people to show him what to do and whether something is okay, rather than confidently making his own choices. His new family will need to patiently help him build independence and discover that the world is safe.
Geronimo enjoys playing tug-of-war, chasing a ball and, of course, plenty of cuddles. He's intelligent, knows "sit" and is making progress with his toilet training. He's friendly with adults and children, travels well in the car and isn't bothered by everyday household noises such as the vacuum cleaner. He's also non-reactive around other dogs.
He has previously lived successfully with a senior cat. He was keen to invite her to play but respected her when she let him know she'd had enough.
Geronimo needs a kind, patient home that understands his lack of confidence and is prepared to use positive reinforcement to help him develop into a more independent little dog. He isn't suited to a home that expects him to simply "get over" his fears or pushes him beyond what he's ready for.
And if you're a gamer, Geronimo could be your perfect companion — he's quite happy to hang out beside you while you play, provided you've got a supply of treats!
Geronimo has plenty of love and affection to give. Once he feels safe, his playful, cuddly personality shines through — and helping him find that confidence will be incredibly rewarding.
