About Ernie
Please only apply for this greyhound if you have:
- Children over 8 years
- Should be fine as a solo dog and with part-time or full-time workers
Ernie is a big, beautiful gentleman who is quite goofy. He’s always very happy to see people and will cuddle with you all day if you let him. He has been a wonderful house guest; he sleeps all night and has also loved sleeping in in the morning.
He loves food, especially sardines but does not like cold wet grass. He can be bit stubborn when we wants go somewhere but nothing that can’t be negotiated with some yummy treats. Ernie hasn’t quite learnt his name yet but it is still a work in progress. Although he is happy alone when you are out, once home he will follow you from room to room in case he can steal a pat and a cuddle. He also has the softest coat ever so is a wonderful cuddle buddy.
• Our favourite things about Ernie; his snuggles on the couch, his love for humans and being a great daily walking companion.
• Quirks: He does a human size burp after eating which is very funny. He likes to show his love by pushing his forehead into you. He also likes to lean his head on your shoulder while sitting on the couch, if you're lucky you get hot breath in your ear.
• He walks very well on lead. He does not pull and will just walk along at your pace.
• Ernie is happy with one walk a day and then content lounging on the couch for the rest of the day.
• Ernie is very friendly. He loves meeting new people and children and will make sure he gets a pat from everyone.
• Ernie is friendly with medium and big dogs and likes to have a sniff with them. He is not keen on small dogs and will sometimes bark at them.
• Ernie is very loving and affectionate. He loves coming up onto the couch for a cuddle.
• Ernie doesn't have a lot of interest in toys and will play with one for about 15 seconds. He does some short zoomies and we think he's working his way up to longer zoomies.
• Ernie travels perfectly in the car and can get in unassisted.
• Ernie is not worried by busy/noisy environments.
• Ernie would be fine as a solo dog.
• Ernie is fine while we go to work for the day and doesn't seem distressed. He is often in a deep sleep and doesn't realise we have come home.
• We think he would be better with children over 8 years as he is big and sometimes doesn't realise his size. When excited he can push past you and he often likes to push his body on you while walking around the house to remind you he loves you.
• He is extremely loving and loves a couch cuddle. He loves his food and is very trainable with treats.
[Note: Under Victorian Law greyhounds must be on-leash at all times in public areas, including in off-leash parks or ovals]
