Gambino is a big softie with his people. He just loves snuggling up in bed or on your lap (even though he is way too big for a lap).
Gambino gets on well with the dogs in his foster pack. When new dogs enter the pack he does try to protect his human and turns green with jealousy. After a few days he settles down and finds the good in his new mates.
Gambino is a fun loving dog who enjoys fishing in the dam and chasey with his mates.
Gambino has anxiety with car rides and the lead, so if he is to be a going out kind of dog he will need some practice and patience from his new family.
Gambino would do best with other dogs or humans around for company most of the time.
MEDICAL ISSUE
Gambino developed IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) as a puppy. IMHA is a severe, life-threatening autoimmune disease where the dog’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys its own red blood cells.
Over the last 6 months we have been fine-tuning with the vet, Gambino's medication and he is now taking ciclosporin (Neoral capsules), an immunosuppressant medication that calms an overactive immune system. It is important that Gambino takes a capsule every day. Any lapse can mean he will become anemic and this can present in sudden bleeding and death.
The cost of the capsules is around $100 per month and it would be recommended to have regular checkups with a vet to ensure his indicators are sitting right. THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS WITH THIS DISEASE so continuing his medication and vet visits is essential.
