About Pearl
Hi! My name is Pearl and I’m a red cattle dog girl who loves my people, my doggy friends, and being right in the middle of the action.
*Please note……Pearl is deaf and needs a family experienced in training deaf dogs or are willing to learn.*
Pearl is a sweet, affectionate and playful girl who doesn’t let being deaf slow her down one bit. She loves a cuddle, enjoys a good roughhouse with her dog friends, and has plenty of classic cattle dog confidence already starting to shine through.
Pearl is not suited to a beginner home. She needs a patient, experienced home that understands working breeds, particularly cattle dogs, and is prepared to guide her with structure, consistency and kindness.
Experience with deaf dogs would be highly desirable, or someone willing to learn and commit to her training needs. Pearl would also benefit from having a calm, tolerant older dog in the home who can help show her the ropes.
Because Pearl cannot hear growls or verbal redirections from other dogs, she needs doggy friends who are patient and appropriate, and humans who can help manage and support her interactions.
Pearl may be deaf, but she is full of life and personality. She loves playing, chasing, wrestling with her dog friends, and soaking up attention from her people.
She is not for the faint-hearted and is already showing some typical cattle dog traits, including heel nipping, chasing moving objects and trying to herd the world around her.
Because of this, Pearl may not be suitable for a home with young children. Older, dog-savvy children who understand boundaries and can follow guidance may be suitable.
With the right structure, consistency and support, these traits can be managed and channelled positively, but she will need a home that understands this is part of who she is.
Underneath all the cattle dog chaos is a very loving girl who bonds strongly and has so much to give.
Pearl will need someone committed to ongoing training, including teaching her hand signals and building clear communication through sign-based cues. She will need oodles of patience, consistency and positive guidance as she grows and learns.
Her deafness means training will look a little different, but with the right person in her corner, Pearl has every opportunity to thrive.
In return, she will give you all the love, loyalty and entertainment you could ever ask for.
Medical notes
Pearl is deaf.
