Adoption Day- Rescue Hens

On Sunday, June 21st, we will be in Tweed Heads (NSW) for a Rescue Hen Adoption Day.

At ‘Til The Cows Come Home, we rescue retired hens from commercial egg farms and host Rescue Hen Adoption Days to find loving homes for these hens.

About the hens:
- Breed: Hyline brown
- Age: Approx. 18 months of age

At around 18 months of age, once a hen's productivity declines and she no longer meets commercial egg-laying standards, she's considered "spent" by the industry – at roughly only a quarter of her natural lifespan. These hens are usually culled and are replaced with younger hens who will one day face the same fate. 💔

These hens don't deserve to be culled just because they're no longer laying at peak production.

Important adopter notes:

All adopters need to have a secure coop, and hens must have access to free-range and be cared for by their adopter, regardless of how long they lay eggs.

These hens have come from egg farms; some hens may need a little more TLC than others. Hens should be treated for lice, mites and worms. High-protein and quality pellets should be fed to the hens once they arrive, with scraps being a treat.
