About Onyx
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Onyx (small breed) – adoption fee $950 which includes all vet work
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender
BREED: Boxer x Jack Russell (but we also think she may have some Chihuahua)
Boxers are intelligent with a high need for companionship and exercise, they are not happy if regularly left home alone. They are playful with an energetic personality, affectionate and loyal to their family forming strong bonds with their humans. Although strong and athletic they are gentle and patient with children making them excellent family dogs. Their protective nature also makes them good watch dogs.
Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. . Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.
*********************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, active, playful and very sweet! She’s an absolute sweetheart who loves affection from her people.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Onyx loves to play fetch with a ball and enjoys playing tug with her rope toy. She loves to sit on your lap for cuddles and a snooze.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She’s very affectionate and is a great companion to have around. She’s also very bouncy like a kangaroo!
OTHER ANIMALS: Onyx gets on well with the other dogs in her foster home and could live with another similar sized, friendly dog in her new home after gentle, supervised introduction. She hasn’t been cat tested and we think may chase, so we would prefer a dog only home for her.
GENERAL INFO: Onyx will need some training in her new home. She has now mastered house training as long as she has access when needed. She rarely barks and hasn’t been destructive in her foster home. She travels well in the car and doesn’t like loud noises.
Her command training is progressing and she knows a couple of commands already. She would benefit greatly from regular formal training to give her the foundation she has missed and to grow her confidence.
She walks nicely on the lead and really enjoys her outings. Onyx is medium to high energy so would need an active home with people who are willing to meet her mental and physical needs.
She could live with a part time worker as long as she gets the exercise and interactivity through her day. She is crate trained but has recently discovered her carer’s bed!
ESSENTIALS for Onyx:
** A loving, active home with someone who can be with her for part of the day, she can cope with around 4 hours alone at present
** She will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve her in daily activities is essential for her as she loves to be right where you are
** Onyx needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore
**Onyx would benefit greatly from training classes to focus her active brain - we would love her new owners to invest this time in her
** Onyx needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Onyx could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10yrs of age as in her excitement she can be bouncy and would be too much for younger children. She could live with another playful dog who matches her energy level or would be happy with her people around more often than not.
If Onyx sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
