Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
    
NAME: Mick - (adoption fee $950 which includes all vet work)

BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with his sister Minnie

BREED: Chihuahua x Jack Russell

Breed Traits: Chihuahua’s love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, and can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities.
Jack Russells are lively, independent, active and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. . Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.

ASSETS: Affectionate, eager to please, friendly, sweet and playful. He’s an outgoing, lovely natured boy but can be a little timid initially when meeting new people.

FAVOURITE THINGS: Mick loves to be around people for cuddles, play and pats, and will happily follow you around the house as you go about your day. He’s in a foster home with his sister and they both love to play together. Favourite games include chasey and hide and seek. He likes chew toys and is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down for a snuggle and snooze with his sister before waking up and starting all over again!   He also loves dinner time!

ENDEARING FEATURES: Mick is an outgoing pup once he feels confident and is a happy little chap with a gentle personality. He’s also very affectionate and will lap up all the attention he can get.

OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. He is in foster with a resident dog and although initially a little wary, he has settled well. We think he could also live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.

GENERAL INFO: Mick will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but he still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while he’s settling into his new home and routine!  He rarely barks, is crate trained and knows that the crate is his safe space as he will run to it if a loud noise scares him. He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs and people, and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner.  We expect these pups to be small but there are no guarantees.
 
ESSENTIALS for Mick:
  
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption 
    
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night  

** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety

** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
 
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation

Mick will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will have a medium energy level as an adult dog. 

Mick could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age, depending on experience, who will play and interact with him kindly but know when to give him space.
