Marley

Meet Marley, a stunning Labrador x German Shorthaired Pointer with a rich chocolate coat and an even brighter personality. At 22kg, she is a beautiful medium-sized young girl who is full of affection, enthusiasm, and potential. Marley is a very special dog who is ready to find a committed home that will help her thrive.
Favourite things
Marley absolutely loves sunbaking in warm spots, stretching out in the sunshine and soaking it all in. She enjoys running through long grass and open spaces where she can really stretch her legs, and she is always up for a game of play with both people and other dogs. More than anything, she loves spending quality time with her humans and being part of whatever is going on around her.
At home, Marley is just as happy to relax. She enjoys sleeping in, taking it easy, and finding a comfortable spot to unwind. She also has a very enthusiastic relationship with soft toys, which she enjoys carrying around and, quite often, enthusiastically destroying.

Interaction with humans
Marley is a deeply affectionate and people-oriented dog who forms strong bonds with her humans. She loves attention and will often seek out cuddles, happily climbing into your lap if given the chance.
When meeting new people, Marley can become quite excited and may jump up in her enthusiasm. She is, however, actively learning calmer greeting behaviours and is improving steadily with consistent guidance and structure.
Obedience / training
Marley is highly intelligent, food-motivated, and very eager to please. She responds exceptionally well to structured, professional training and truly thrives when given clear guidance. She has already had some training with a professional trainer and shows a strong love for learning.
She has good recall in low-distraction environments, excellent learning potential, and a natural drive for engagement and training. With continued development, she would be well suited to obedience, agility, scent work, or other dog sports.
Like many young dogs, Marley can also be mischievous. She may take opportunities to steal items such as socks or investigate things she shouldn’t, so she should not be left unsupervised with access to tempting household items.
Animal social skills
Marley enjoys the company of other dogs and is generally very keen to play. She especially loves chase-style games and interactive play.
At the same time, she is still developing her social awareness and can become overly excited, sometimes struggling to read other dogs’ cues. On lead, she may also become quite animated when she sees other dogs.
She would be best suited to either being the only dog in the home or living with a calm, playful male dog of similar size and energy. A compatible dog companion would be a bonus but is not essential.
Marley has previously lived with a cat, however she does enjoy chasing, so only a very dog-savvy cat would be suitable, and careful management would be required. She is also interested in wildlife such as kangaroos, so secure fencing is essential in rural environments.
Independence
Marley can be a little clingy and loves being close to her people, but she is also capable of settling independently when needed. She can be left alone at home without issue and is generally quiet and well-behaved once settled.
She is still building confidence in some areas. Car travel can make her a little unsure at times, and she may show mild stress such as panting, although she is improving with positive reinforcement, treats, reassurance, and gradual exposure. Continued positive experiences are expected to further build her confidence over time.
Food
Marley is very food motivated and enjoys both meals and treats. She currently eats a premium dry food diet and responds very well to food-based training rewards.
She is also quite opportunistic and will happily investigate kitchen benches or unattended food, so management around food access is important in the home.
Hygiene
Marley is fully toilet trained and clean in the home. She has a low-maintenance, silky chocolate coat that is easy to care for and does not require extensive grooming.
Sleeping
At night, Marley sleeps well in her own dog bed and is comfortable resting independently. She enjoys a calm, predictable sleeping routine and settles nicely once the household winds down.
Exercise
Marley is an active, energetic young dog who requires at least one hour of exercise each day, along with additional mental stimulation and enrichment.
She loves running, exploring, and off-lead adventures in safe, secure environments. Without enough physical and mental activity, she can become restless and under-stimulated.
Inside the home
Marley enjoys being part of the household and spending time indoors with her people. She is not suited to being an outside-only dog and thrives when included as a true family member.
She is affectionate and social, generally calm when settled, and can be a little mischievous if bored or left unsupervised. She does best in a home where she is included in daily life and given both structure and companionship.
Ideal home
Marley is looking for an active, committed home that understands the needs of a young, intelligent, energetic working-breed mix.
Her ideal home would include a secure, good-sized yard with shade and shelter, along with an active family who enjoys exercise and outdoor activities. She needs inside access and to be included as part of the family, along with ongoing training and mental stimulation.
Experience with energetic or working breeds would be beneficial, and any children in the home should be mature and dog-savvy. If a cat is present, it must be very dog-savvy, and another suitable calm, playful male dog could be considered but is not essential.
Marley is not suited to apartments, small yards, or homes where she will be primarily kept outside. She is also not suited to low-activity households.
She is a bright, affectionate, and highly capable young dog with enormous potential. With the right guidance, structure, and love, Marley will become an incredible companion and may even excel in dog sports or training activities
