About Possum
Meet Possum (Possie for Short!) 💕🐾
3.1kg of zoomies, cuddles, cheekiness, and pure Chihuahua charm. ❤️
Possum is a 2 years and 2 months old Chihuahua X who has come into care from a breeder who is downsizing. Since arriving in rescue, Possum has had all of her veterinary work completed, including desexing, and is now ready to find a forever family of her very own.
Some dogs enter a room and immediately demand attention.
Possum prefers to quietly assess the situation first.
New people, new noises, and unfamiliar environments can make her feel a little unsure. As an ex-breeding girl, she's still learning that the world isn't quite as scary as she once thought.
But once Possum feels safe?
Oh my goodness... that's when the real Possum appears. 💕
The shy little dog who carefully watches from a distance transforms into a hilarious, playful, affectionate whirlwind who wants to be involved in absolutely everything.
Inside her home, Possum is a completely different dog.
The lounge becomes an obstacle course.
The bed becomes a trampoline.
The hallway becomes a racetrack.
And anyone sitting still becomes part of her parkour course. 😂
This tiny girl has energy to burn and absolutely loves racing around the house, chasing toys, playing ball in the yard, and inventing her own games to keep herself entertained.
She's also incredibly clever.
Possum comes running when called, stays when asked, walks beautifully on lead, and is always eager to learn—especially if treats are involved.
And treats are very much involved.
Possum firmly believes every achievement deserves a reward.
Went to the toilet outside?
Treat.
Finished a walk?
Treat.
Survived a bath?
Definitely treat.
Existing?
Also probably treat. 😆
When she's not busy zooming around, Possum is a champion cuddler.
At night she sleeps beside her foster mum's pillow, and now that the weather is cooling down, she has discovered the joy of burrowing under the doona like a tiny furry wombat.
She loves snuggling close and soaking up affection from the people she trusts.
Possum can be shy around strangers and will do best with people who allow her to approach in her own time. She has made wonderful progress in foster care and now happily greets visitors she knows and trusts, but she doesn't appreciate being rushed or having people immediately reach for her.
Patience wins Possum's heart every time.
When it comes to other animals, Possum is quite happy being the centre of attention. She is wary of unfamiliar dogs and cats and generally prefers to keep her distance rather than interact.
For this reason, we believe she would thrive as an only dog in a calm, loving home where she can soak up all the attention for herself.
One of Possum's many talents includes helping with household chores.
Making the bed?
She's helping.
Folding washing?
She's helping.
Packing boxes?
She's helping.
Unpacking boxes?
She's helping even more.
The definition of "helping" may vary depending on who you ask. 😂
Socks, clothes, and anything left on the floor may also mysteriously disappear as Possum believes collecting household items is an important hobby.
She also has an exceptionally fast little lizard tongue and loves giving kisses. Lots and lots of kisses.
Morning wake-up calls generally involve Possum enthusiastically licking your face until you're awake enough to appreciate her.
Possum loves her daily walks and enjoys getting out and about, although she can be nervous when unfamiliar people or dogs approach. Loud noises such as vacuums, rattling objects, banging sounds, and even an unexpected sneeze can send her scampering for cover.
Because of this, she is looking for a calm, patient family who will continue helping her build confidence and feel safe in the world around her.
What Possum needs most isn't training.
It isn't perfection.
It isn't endless adventures.
What she needs is someone willing to give her time.
Time to trust.
Time to settle.
Time to realise that she is finally home.
Because underneath the occasional nervousness is a sweet, gentle, funny little soul who is bursting with personality.
And once Possum loves you, she loves you with her whole heart. ❤️

- Your current dogs vaccinations up-to-date and have a copy of the certificate to send thru (please contact your vet asap if you don't have a copy)
- Your dog can travel to the carers location
- You are available to attend the meet and greet within the next 7 days

Adoption details
Paw Prints Canine Rescue is a non for profit dog rescue located in Southeast Queensland.
All our dogs leave our care with full vet work (up-to-date vaccinated, microchipped, desexed, heart worm and intestinal wormed and flea treated).
Please note - They will not leave for their new homes until they are 12 weeks of age and have been desexed, micro-chipped and vaccinated up to date.
Please note - we are not a pound or have kennels - all our dogs stay in foster carers homes and therefore dogs are not able to be simply viewed - only approved applicants will meet the dogs.

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption - each bio will state if available for adoption - please check before applying.
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
