If you've ever wondered what happens when you combine the heart of a teddy bear...

The enthusiasm of a Labrador...

And the determination of a Bulldog...

Allow me to introduce myself.

I'm Max, a 12 month and 3 week old Australian Bulldog who has come into care through a private surrender through absolutely no fault of my own.

I'm still very much a big puppy at heart.

I love life.

I love people.

I love food.

And I firmly believe every day should include an adventure, a nap on the couch and, if possible...

A swim.

Seriously...

If there's water involved...

Count me in!

Paddling pool?

Yes.

Dam?

Absolutely.

Beach?

Even better.

I absolutely love swimming and am surprisingly graceful once I'm in the water.

On land...

Well...

Let's just say my Bulldog waddle has plenty of character. 😆

When I'm not perfecting my doggy paddle, you'll usually find me carrying a ball around, hoping someone will throw it.

Over.

And over.

And over again.

Thankfully, I'm just as happy chewing on a toy beside my family while everyone relaxes together.

Being included is what matters most to me.

Around the home, I'm wonderfully easy-going.

My favourite place?

Exactly where my people are.

Whether that's stretched out on the couch watching television...

Or sitting proudly by the front door making sure everything is running smoothly.

I like to think of myself as Head of Home Security.

If I hear something unusual...

Or someone arrives...

I'll let everyone know with a bark before returning to my very important job of relaxing.

Now...

There is one very important thing you should know about Bulldogs.

We don't always realise how big and solid we are.

Sometimes I get so excited to see my people that I'll enthusiastically climb onto the couch beside you...

Or squeeze between your legs...

Or lean in for a cuddle...

Without fully appreciating that I'm built more like a little tank than a feather. 🤣

I never mean to bump into anyone...

It's simply one of those wonderfully goofy Bulldog traits.

Because of this, I'd be best suited to a home with older children (around 13 years and over), or children who are steady on their feet and won't mind the occasional accidental Bulldog body-check during an excited moment.

I have previously lived with a younger child and was always loving, but sometimes my enthusiasm was simply a little too much for them.

One thing you'll quickly discover about me...

I like to have a little chat.

Especially in the mornings.

I'll happily have a conversation with you while we head outside for my morning sniff around the yard.

I don't ask for much...

Just breakfast...

A few cuddles...

And someone to admire how handsome I am.

Speaking of breakfast...

Let's talk about food.

Because food...

Is amazing.

Dinner time is one of my favourite parts of the day, and I'm highly motivated by tasty treats, praise and affection.

(Although if you happen to have a nice BBQ steak... I certainly won't complain.)

Because I have an allergy to chicken, I'll need a family who understands my dietary needs and keeps me on a suitable chicken-free diet.

I'm an excellent housemate too.

I'm toilet trained, confidently use the doggy door and will happily let you know if I need to head outside.

I'm also crate trained, travel beautifully in the car and can comfortably stay home for around four to six hours if needed.

My foster family often say...

"Max is just an awesome dog."

And honestly...

I think they're onto something.

I'm fantastic on lead and absolutely love going for walks.

Thirty minutes of sniffing, exploring and enjoying the fresh air is my idea of a perfect outing.

After that?

You'll probably find me back on the couch watching the world go by.

Or perhaps...

Watching the horse races on television.

Yes...

You read that correctly.

For reasons known only to me, I genuinely enjoy sitting on the couch watching the horses race around the track.

Every family needs at least one quirky member...

I proudly volunteer. 🐎😂

I'm wonderful with other dogs and currently live happily with a Staffy.

That said, I'd also love being the only dog in the home where I could soak up every bit of attention, affection and love for myself.

I greet new people beautifully.

I'm calm.

Polite.

I don't jump all over everyone.

When I first arrived in foster care I was a little unsure, but once I realised I was safe, I settled beautifully and made myself right at home.

Like many dogs, loud unexpected noises can occasionally make me pause, and I'm still not entirely convinced the vacuum cleaner can be trusted.

I'm also not a huge fan of being picked up or having people cuddle tightly around my neck or head.

I much prefer sitting beside you, leaning against your legs or relaxing close enough that we can enjoy each other's company without all the fuss.

That's my kind of affection.

Cats haven't been tested, so any home with cats would need to understand this is an unknown.

As a young Bulldog, I also need a family who'll continue the great training I've already had.

I'm a clever boy who responds really well to positive reinforcement, but like most Bulldogs, I can occasionally test the boundaries if they're not consistently reinforced.

Kind, confident and consistent guidance will help me continue growing into the amazing adult dog I'm becoming.

More than anything...

I'm simply looking for a family who'll include me in everyday life.

A family who'll take me on walks.

Throw my ball.

Take me swimming.

Laugh at my morning conversations.

Understand that my accidental bulldozing is simply my way of loving with my whole body.

And love me for the goofy, gentle Bulldog I am.

Because underneath these chunky shoulders and handsome face is a beautiful young boy with an enormous heart who's ready to spend the rest of his life making his forever family smile.
