About Buddy
Meet Buddy — a joyful Staffy X with a head like a cement block, a grin a mile wide, and enough personality to fill the whole house.
Buddy is built exactly how you’d expect a young Staffy boy to be: sturdy, goofy, affectionate, and permanently convinced life is one big party. He’s “happy as Larry” pretty much all the time and absolutely loves being around people and other dogs.
He’s dog-friendly and enjoys a good rough-and-tumble play session, but he’s also quite clever socially — if another dog tells him off with a bark or growl, Buddy generally takes the hint and gives them space. He’s still young and exuberant though, and when the zoomies hit, this boy can accidentally bowl over a full-grown adult without even noticing. Because of that, he’d be best suited to a home without very small children. He’s also still learning not to “mouth” when he gets excited, so he’ll need continued guidance and consistency there.
Earlier this year, Buddy was involved in a car accident that left him with a badly broken back leg. SAFE saw him through multiple surgeries and a long recovery process--and he's come through an absolute champ. He's 'Rhett to go now' ie ready for a home of his own.
On walks, Buddy can pull like a veritable freight train on a regular collar or harness, but pop a head halti on him and he’s easy as pie to walk. If you come meet him, you might be able to take him for a spin yourself (depending on where he is recovering from his last surgery.
Buddy hasn’t been exposed to cats, but he also hasn’t shown any prey drive while in foster care.
At home, Buddy is equal parts clown and couch potato. He LOVES stuffed toys — squeakers are surgically removed almost immediately, but somehow the toys themselves mostly survive. His favourite daily activity is enthusiastically emptying every single toy out of his toy box and scattering them around the yard for foster mum to collect later. He also enjoys chewing on antlers and bones.
He’s not much of a barker or digger, and when the excitement winds down, Buddy transforms into a classic Staffy bed-hog who firmly believes couches and blankets were invented specifically for him.
Like many young dogs, if left alone too long (think 8+ hours), he may entertain himself by nibbling on shoes or slippers left within reach — so he’ll thrive best in a home where he gets companionship, enrichment, and plenty of love.
Buddy is looking for a family who appreciates goofy Staffy charm, can continue supporting his recovery, and doesn’t mind sharing both their couch and their heart with a very special boy.
