Meet Hazel!
Hazel came into rescue after she and her brother Shadow were dumped by their breeder. They were found on one side of town one day, picked up, then found on the other side of town just two days later. Over the course of a week they’d done the rounds, had no microchips, and their owners made no effort to take responsibility or get them back. So we stepped in.
Hazel is tiny, hilarious, confident, and absolutely full of personality. She may be under 10kg fully grown, but she genuinely believes she’s the boss of the world. She’s playful, cheeky, social, and always ready to be involved in whatever is happening around her.
The best way to describe Hazel is “pocket rocket”. She zooms around the yard, launches herself into playtime with the big dogs, and tackles life with confidence and sass far bigger than her tiny body. She’s bold, curious, funny, and incredibly entertaining to live with.
Because Hazel and Shadow were dumped, we can’t be 100% sure of their breed mix, however it’s strongly suspected they are some sort of terrier x cattle dog mix.
Hazel currently lives in a busy household with four large breed dogs and absolutely thrives in the chaos. She adores other dogs and must be rehomed with another playful, social dog companion. She loves wrestling, chasing toys, causing mischief, and generally making herself part of the action.
Her foster carers have varying schedules, and Hazel happily hangs out at home with the other dogs during the day before coming inside at night to sleep. Hazel is doing really well with crate training and sleeps in her crate overnight or on a dog bed with her foster siblings. She's fantastic with people, very playful and affectionate, confident and social. She loves other dogs and travels great in the car. She's a good girl at the vet, patiently letting them do what they need to. She is a very smart girl, eager to learn and full of personality.
She lives alongside a caged bird and has been respectful around it. She has seen horses from a distance and was happy to simply observe them. Hazel has not met chickens, cows, or cats at this stage. So those introductions should come slowly and with an experienced owner.
At home, Hazel loves toys, snuggles, zooming around the yard, annoying the big dogs into playing with her, and then crashing out inside with the family at night. She’s affectionate, busy, clever, and loves having things to do.
Like many terrier types, Hazel can be clever and adventurous, so she will need a secure yard and ongoing mental stimulation to keep her happy and occupied.
If you’re looking for a confident, funny, sassy little best friend with a huge personality packed into a tiny body, Hazel might just be your perfect match.
