Meet Shadow!
Shadow came into rescue after he and his sister Hazel were dumped by their breeder. They were found on one side of town one day, picked up, then found on the other side of town just two days later. Over the course of a week they’d done the rounds, had no microchips, and their owners made no effort to take responsibility or get them back. So we stepped in.
Shadow is a happy, affectionate boy with a lovely nature and an easygoing personality. He loves people, enjoys being involved in whatever is going on, and forms strong bonds with his humans. He’s friendly, social, playful and just genuinely lovely to have around. Because Shadow and Hazel were dumped we aren't 100% sure of their breed mix, however it is strongly suspected it is some sort of terrier x cattle dog. Shadow is a pretty small fella, weighing in at approx 10kg.
Our favourite word to describe him is “skidadle”. He just skidadles here, skidadles there, and gets very skidadly when he’s loving life. He’s playful, goofy, gentle and always happy to be included.
Shadow currently lives in a busy household with three other dogs and fits in beautifully. There are horses and chickens to meet on the farm, and cows too, though the cows were not his favourite. Both foster carers work full time with varying schedules, and Shadow happily hangs out at home with the other dogs during the day. He thrives with canine companionship and must be rehomed with another friendly, playful dog. This isn’t optional for him, as he does not cope well as an only dog.
He’s doing really well with crate training and sleeps in it overnight, eats his meals in there happily, and takes himself in there when he needs downtime. He's great with people, even new ones, and is gentle with kids. He loves other dogs, is good with chickens for the most part (friendly, but needs supervision), good in the car, good on lead, smart, and very loyal. He’s also been around horses and has even tagged along to his foster carer’s workplace a few times to check things out. He does really well out in public and happily takes the lead from his humans in new environments.
At home, Shadow enjoys pottering around the yard, relaxing with his dog friends, playing with toys, and spending evenings inside with the family- usually stretched out in front of the TV or choosing his crate when he wants some quiet time. He loves his soft beds, snuggles, and keeping his busy little mind occupied. He does need a secure yard, as he has a typical terrier instinct to explore and socialise if given the opportunity.
Shadow hasn’t met cats yet, so any home with cats would need to be experienced, committed to slow introductions, and willing to provide ongoing management and training. We would not recommend a home with roaming outdoor cats.
If you’re looking for a funny, affectionate, social companion with lovely manners and a huge heart, Shadow might just be the missing piece your family has been waiting for.
