About Rocco
Meet Rocco 🐾
Rocco is a 1½-year-old miniature long-haired dachshund with a beautiful chocolate coat and a gentle, loving nature.
He would thrive in a caring family home with a secure suburban backyard where he can wander around, relax, and still keep an eye on his people inside. Rocco is happiest when he feels close to his family and would likely benefit from having another calm, small dog as a companion to help build his confidence and ease some of his anxiety.
Rocco would suit a home where someone is around most of the day or works from home, as he forms strong bonds with his people and can become distressed when left alone.
Like many anxious dogs, Rocco can be wary of strangers and unfamiliar dogs at first. He will bark until he feels safe and has decided he can trust someone. He generally prefers smaller dogs and, although he may bark initially, he can warm up with slow introductions.
Rocco has met and played with children aged 8–14 years. He does need time to feel comfortable around new people, but once he trusts you, his beautiful personality shines through.
Sleeping & Routine
Sleeps very well overnight in a crate in the bedroom
Currently wakes around 2am for a quick toilet break, then settles back to sleep easily
Does have a tendency to mark territory indoors and will need continued training and consistency
Separation Anxiety
Rocco does experience separation anxiety. If his person is outside in the yard, he may become upset briefly but usually settles if he can still hear or see them. However, if left alone when someone leaves in the car, he becomes very distressed and may bark or cry.
Rocco will need a patient and understanding owner who has the time and commitment to continue building his confidence and helping him feel secure. In return, you’ll have a loyal little companion with a truly lovely nature.
